I'm finally caught up on all the shows I missed while I was traveling for work. This is the last ep of anything I had to watch.
Poor John. He hates being in charge of the city. One of the knocks against Star Trek was that the entire senior staff kept beaming off the ship on missions all at once, so it was kind of cool that Woolsey insisted John stay behind. It was also pretty darned funny that Woolsey insisted he be part of the mission due to his superior diplomacy skills, then managed to put his foot in his mouth every other minute. John may not be a gifted diplomat, but he knows how to handle Todd.
I loved the scene that cut back and forth between John and Rodney showing their parallel thought processes. There's a reason those two are friends. But on the other hand, what was with everybody crapping on John's intelligence the whole episode? Both Rodney and Daniel were snickering over the "he could've been Mensa" comment Rodney made about John, and then Zelenka said he didn't think he could dumb down his explanation enough for John to understand it. John may not be as smart as some of the super-genius scientists, but he's not an idiot. He looked like he was getting pretty frustrated with the way people were talking to him.
I hope we learn more about the unnamed armored aliens. They're awesome so far. Of course, most Stargate aliens are awesome when they're introduced, and then they get wussified later when the writers realize the aliens are too awesome for our heroes to actually defeat. But with only half a season left, I hold out hope that the aliens will remain cool for the rest of the series.
Why does Keller keep looking so surprised that the Wraith aren't enthusiastically volunteering to have their DNA substantially altered? Her plan benefits humans more than the Wraith, and the Wraith don't really care what humans want.
The gate exploding and taking out the windows in the tower was cool. I can't wait to see how they fix that.

Date: 2008-10-09 01:55 am (UTC)From:I, too, was baffled by the need to belittle Sheppard's intelligence in this episode. It reminded me, unfavorably, of The Pegasus Project when everyone was ganging up on McKay. I realize that they were probably trying for comedic moments, but it got to the point where it was just ugly.
