Mini Wetterhorn

Pattern by Tereena Clarke of Artecy Cross Stitch based on a painting by Joseph Anton Koch.

Stitch parking level 2: achievement unlocked. I can't tell you how many times I went to park a thread and found another thread already parked there. I think I properly fixed everything I caught, but goodness only knows if this looks anything like it was supposed to.

The second picture is a distance shot because this pattern was done in the pointillist style, so the farther away you stand, the more detailed it looks.

I've been living in a sitcom since yesterday. Last night as I was getting ready for bed, I kept seeing something moving out of the corner of my eye, but I could never catch what it was. I was thinking 'please don't be a spider please don't be a spider' when I finally saw what it was--a very speedy house centipede. I haven't seen one in awhile, so I was semi-glad to see this one (they eat spiders). I just hadn't wanted it to see it inches from my face on the bathroom counter while I was trying to pee. Then I got up and flushed, and the centipede panicked and ran off the end of the counter. I don't mean it ran to the end of the countertop and then down the sides of the cabinet; I mean it did a full-on Wile E. Coyote run off the end of the counter, hovered in the air for a split second waving its many, many legs, then plummeted to the floor. I can't believe these things are predators. I can only assume whatever they catch is even dumber than they are.

Then this morning there was something else on the bathroom floor (I swear I'm never peeing again). It was about the size of a grain of rice and practically liquid in its flexibility. Watching it try to navigate the plateaus of tile and valleys of grout was not unlike watching a puppy navigate stairs for the first time. And each time it achieved a new plateau of tile, it would run around in circles like 'OMG this one is surrounded by grout too?!' My bathroom is currently like Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom, only ridiculous.

But I don't know what. The news this morning said we got three tornadoes yesterday but that they were all very far away from me. Like, 'a two hour drive' far. But I don't know how else to explain what happened to me if it didn't involve a (very weak, admittedly) tornado.

The news segment about the Higgins Hall implosion that my friends and I were in is now up on WQAD's Facebook page. You don't need a Facebook account to view it.

And here I was worried that I wouldn't have any pictures or videos to remember this by because I forgot my iPod. This is the coolest thing ever.

Last month I found out my undergrad college was going to demolish the dorm I lived in junior year. Although I lived in another dorm longer, Higgins was the one where I met all the friends I still keep in touch with, and one of them (Cheryl) organized a reunion for us to watch the building come down.

I've been going through the Dreamwidth posts that I imported from LJ looking for import fails (any video I embedded in LJ didn't survive the move to Dreamwidth is one issue I've found), and it's been fun reading some old episode discussions. It's also been fun reading my predictions on how a story arc would go to see how right or wrong I turned out to be. Then tonight I found this in a reaction post I wrote for the Supernatural ep "Hammer of the Gods":

Matt Frewer as Pestilence? You have no idea how happy this makes me! The only Canadian actors I have left on my wish list now are Nicholas Lea, Chris Potter, and Gordon Michael Woolvett. Every other Canadian actor I've ever wanted to see on the show has already appeared.

I wrote this as a joke on April 22, 2010. It took a few more seasons, but I did get Nicholas Lea and Gord (twice!). Supernatural has been renewed for another season. Can we get Chris Potter's agent on the phone?

It's been about two years since I got my fangirl squee on about anything (except for maybe some books I've read that have no online fandom, so my RL friends have had to endure my gushing). Then yesterday I got a notice from Midwest Tape. They sell A/V materials to libraries, and I order DVDs and Blu-rays from them for the anime collection at work.

Gatchaman II is coming out on DVD next week and Gatchaman Fighter is coming out in July! I never thought I'd ever be able to watch that whole series all the way through. I nearly had vapors at my desk. And I sense a Gatchaman marathon coming on.

P.S. -- You may better recognize the Gatchaman franchise from one of the names it was aired under in the U.S.: Battle of the Planets, G Force, or Saban's Eagle Riders.

Monty Python and the Holy Grail pattern by Weelittlestitches on Etsy.

This project was a great disappointment for me. The pattern was so cute, but it didn't come with a fabric color suggestion and, left to my own devices, I chose exactly the wrong one. To be fair, every fabric color I looked at was either the exact same color as one of the characters or clashed wildly with one of the other colors. I'd hoped the parchment color was just different enough that the white would show up on it, but I was wrong and had to add some backstitching to all the white bits. Boo.

Anyway, it's done. Click to embiggen.

In order to keep my giant pile of unread things from getting any bigger, my resolution for 2016 was to not buy a new book until I'd read at least one I already own. How did that go?
