I tried LARPing one time. I didn't like it that much--too much crap to remember. I prefer the regular old notepad and pencil version. There was one part of the game where my character was knocked unconscious and another player knelt down to roll me over. His hand landed somewhere personal on my chest by accident, but then the GM called an end to the round and he wasn't allowed to move it until it was his turn again. The poor guy was beet red and could not stop apologizing to me for where his hand was. I thought it was hilarious, but I think he was emotionally scarred. ;-)
It was nice to hear D&D and Call of Cthulhu name-checked, because those were the role-playing games I played most. I miss my Call of Cthulhu group. They were a silly bunch. Plus I got to play everything from a modern college student to a Victorian noblewoman to a robotics engineer to a Chinese mail order bride in the old west.
Garth is tracking hunters via GPS in their phones and using their locations to assign cases? You know, that's what I wanted Ellen and the Roadhouse to be when they were first introduced. I think the Harvelles would have worked out so much better at the time if they had been the equivalent of police dispatchers for the hunting community.
I see that Charlie didn't stray far with her new alias. She went from one SF giant (Bradbury) to another (Heinlein).
It's nice to see the boys actually wanting to spend time in each other's company, although I feel sorry for the other LARPers meeting them in combat. Sam and Dean are kind of ringers there. Another sign that the show is getting back on track? Sam got strangled! I'm still holding out hope that we might get one more bitch/jerk before the show ends.

Date: 2013-01-30 06:25 am (UTC)From:I thought it was so sweet that Sam had them stick around to play with the LARPers because Dean had said it kind of looked like fun. It made the episode seem out of continuity with the rest of the season, but I'm totally fine with ignoring most of what this season has done to Sam.
I thought it was interesting that the fairy first showed up to Charlie looking like Herne/Cernunnos but then the episode didn't do anything with it.
