Apologies in advance. I'm sick and fairly heavily medicated right now, so disjointed thoughts are disjointed.
Is it possible to plagiarize yourself? This episode reminded me way too much of "Hollywood Babylon," which was also written by Ben Edlund. He does like to make fun of Kripke's scriptwriting though, doesn't he? Octocobra? Really? Syfy can run it as part of a double feature with Sharktopus.
The weird mix of "real" reality and "fake" reality kept distracting me by making me wonder why they went with one choice but not another. I can see why they got actors to play Kripke and Robert Singer, but why not have Clif play himself? He's acted on the show before. And why have the Jared and Jensen in their reality not speaking to each other?
Having Jared's wife play herself was a fun choice, even though I'm not a fan of her acting, especially since she had a major storyline on the show involving Sam. They didn't even have to Photoshop a wedding photo. I think this is the first thing I've seen her in since they got married, so I didn't realize she'd changed her professional name to Padalecki.
What was with the alpaca? I wish they could've used Harley and Sadie. I would've loved to have seen Sam's reaction to being tackled by Jared's big dogs.
I did enjoy some of the in jokes, the shout-out to Kim Manners (KM Motion Picture Studio), the teamwork between the boys, and Sam being willing to give up fame and fortune because it meant not being Dean's brother, and I liked the new Raphael, but the scene with Sam and Dean trying to act was excruciating and went on way too long.
I know the show usually has the Winchester stuff as the A story and the hunt as the B story, but this is one episode where I wish it had been the other way around. The A story flogged a cute concept to death, while the B story only had about 5 minutes' worth of plot.

I was disappointed. Wanted more S/D reacting to J2's lives. Killing Misha took it from "Rats! This is disappointing" to "I don't like this - at all."

Date: 2011-02-26 06:13 pm (UTC)From:I've been reading reaction posts this morning, and it's surprised me how many people were upset by the character deaths. I guess they didn't bother me because they were still so obviously fictional characters who just happened to be based on real people. Heck, only Misha was playing himself.

It would've been brilliant if they'd had Rob Benedict play Kripke. From creator of the book series to creator of the TV series!

Date: 2011-02-26 08:50 pm (UTC)From:It took me until the very end to get this, but that was some kind of flashback in a flashback (meta in a meta in a meta) observation on Sam and Dean not talking to each other. It took me until Sam said at the end, "But at least we're talking." as a joke to make me get it.
And o hai.

Date: 2011-02-26 11:36 pm (UTC)From:And Genevieve, oh Genevieve. The "you married Ruby" reaction was funny, but her acting was even more painful in this than when she was playing Ruby. That or I lost the tolerance that I'd built up to her in season four.

Date: 2011-03-06 06:39 am (UTC)From:I think it was just because they're so close in real life that it seemed like a more "hollywood" sort of thing if they did the opposite and couldn't stand each other, since that's the way it is on a lot of other sets. All the women on Desperate Housewives hate each other, apparently, for example (not that I watch it, but that's what I've heard). That's my take, anyway.
I wanted to see Jared's dogs too!
