I like having TV series that run in the summer when all of the networks are in reruns, but one of the bad things about it is that the gap between seasons is so huge that it's hard to remember where the show left off. Fortunately, Eureka does a pretty good job of reintroducing the series every year.
I really missed the dialogue on this show. It's silly, and Colin Ferguson and Ed Quinn have such wonderfully dry deliveries.
I was a little disappointed that last year's major plotline only got a passing mention, but I suppose it makes sense to reintroduce the characters first after the long break before getting back into the swing of things. I kind of agree with Henry that he needs to take responsibility for his actions, but at the same time, I'd hate to see him written out of the series. I like Henry.
I also like the changes in some of the characters. I loved Allison in season one, but last year, I think she only had two facial expressions all season and spent too much time in the office talking. I hope this episode is a sign that she's getting back to her old self, because she actually had a personality tonight and she got out of the office for a bit.
Zoe has also improved a lot. I hated her so much in season one that I almost stopped watching the show. Last season, she only annoyed me intermittently. Tonight, I actually liked her, so I hope that's a trend that continues for the rest of the season.
Jack is still clearly mourning the life he used to have with Allison (that no one remembers except him and Henry), but I hope Allison agreeing to marry Nathan again puts a nail in that coffin. I thought Jack and Allison had good chemistry, but she also has good chemistry with Nathan, while Jack and Callie (Jack's girlfriend the dry cleaner) made a cute couple last season. I'd really hate to see the show go back to a Nathan/Allison/Jack love triangle at Callie's expense. The major irony here is that I normally hate ship on my shows, but for some reason it doesn't bother me on Eureka.
So, isMiss Clairol Eva Thorne the new Beverly? She looks like she could make a good antagonist, but I would be very disappointed if the character of Beverly never came back. I want her to be held accountable for the two murders she committed. If Henry has to do jail time, she should too.
