the_other_sandy: Black and white TV (TV)
Last year, I posted a series of wish lists of what I would like to see on each of my shows in the upcoming season, and I've been revisiting those lists recently to see how they did. Heroes is the last one. With the strike and all, it's been, what, six or seven months since I last saw an episode, so I hope I can remember what happened in season 2.

1. Peter and Nathan both surviving and getting lots more screen time together

Peter and Nathan both survived the explosion from the season 1 finale, but they didn't get any screen time together until the end of the season, and Nathan's survival was once again in question in the season 2 finale. I was not a happy fangirl.

2. Sylar surviving and he and Peter having a major battle using all of their powers that lasts longer than ten seconds (seriously, I really want to see Peter get his badass on; he owes Sylar a butt-kicking for killing him)

Sylar survived but was powerless until the season finale. Peter only got his badass on in the season finale against The Company, but the coolest use of his powers all season was (unfortunately) against Hiro (see icon).

ETA: This was the icon referred to in the original LJ post:

3. The guy that Molly's more afraid of than Sylar (the one who can see her when she thinks about him)

We did get to see Molly's nightmare man. Unfortunately, he turned out to be as scary as a used car salesman and was defeated by Matt Parkman in only their second encounter. Seriously, I just can't be afraid of an evil villain named Maury.

4. Parkman dying, very early in the season (he bores me to tears at all times)

Parkman did not die, but I forgive him because he actually became interesting this year. He was actively involved in the ongoing plots and interacting with other characters, he made an unexpectedly great team with Nathan, and he was the cutest thing ever playing 'my two dads' with Mohinder and Molly. In this particular case, not getting what I wanted turned out to be a really good thing.

5. The return of Claude Rains

Sadly, no, but hope springs eternal. I'll have to put this on my list for season 3.

6. Peter facing off against his mother over her knowing about his and Nathan's powers before they did (not to mention her choosing to let him explode for the sake of a grander scheme)

Why TPTB chose to keep the Petrelli family (the most interesting group of characters on the show) separated for most of the season is beyond me, but Peter only saw his mother once, and he didn't remember her at first. Most of their interaction was an infodump about the Shanti virus, and there really wasn't time for them to get into anything deeply personal. Boo. Hiss.

7. The new heroes being introduced don't make the already large cast so huge that none of the characters have time to develop

This was a big no. There were too many new characters introduced, and most of them were really pointless (Maya and Alejandro spent the entire season traveling to New York). I know the show is trying to establish a whole universe, but how are we supposed to care about any of the characters when the cast is so huge that you only get to see each character for 5 or 10 minutes every other episode? It's time to thin the herd.

8. A flashback showing Peter and Nathan as kids

Another no. C'mon, guys, Supernatural does it. I'd love to see how Nathan handled the age difference between himself and Peter, and wouldn't a little bitty Peter be cute?

9. An explanation for Peter's prophetic dreams (he seemed to be having them before he met Isaac; is this a natural power, or did he absorb it from someone without realizing?)

I don't think Peter's prophetic dreams even came up this year. He spent most of the season not able to remember who he was, let alone what his powers were. Watching him rediscover powers we already knew he had was one of the more boring plotlines of the season.

10. Angela Petrelli getting slapped in the face with a wet fish (hey, I can dream, can't I?)

Nope. In fact, Angela really got put on the back burner this season. I got the feeling she was up to a lot of things off-screen, but we never really got to see them.

Time to start making lists for next season.
