SGA Ep: The Last Man

Yay for being spoiler free! This was not at all what I thought this episode was going to be like based on the title and the trailer. I liked it.

The ep was a little talky with some action bits forcibly inserted to break up all the talking. SGA has always suffered from a bit of tell instead of show, but I forgive it this time. It was interesting to hear what happened to everyone in the 25 years between John's disappearance and Rodney's breakthrough. I kept wondering who replaced John as head of the military after John was listed as KIA though. I hope it was Lorne. I also greatly enjoyed the chemistry between Hologram!Rodney and John.

Michael thought it was ironic that he never wanted to be a supervillain, but he blamed both Atlantis for kidnapping and experimenting on him, and the Wraith for not accepting him when he came back. To me, the irony was that the greatest enemy Atlantis faced in the Pegasus galaxy, the one who nearly destroyed everything and everyone in the other future, was the one they created themselves.

But I still say that Michael needs a white cat with a diamond collar. It's in the supervillain union contract.

You'd think being hugged by Sam would be Rodney's dream come true, but he looked about as enthused as Sheppard does when hugged.

Woolsey was wearing the same style uniform as Rodney and the other male civilians, and yet somehow it looked weirdly feminine on him. He looked like he was wearing a women's uniform.

And speaking of bad uniforms, the future SGC needs a better uniform designer. Lorne's uniform made him look like a bellhop in a 1940s East German hotel. But I was glad to see he'd survived.

The 'who will survive' cliffhanger didn't really fit with the tone of the rest of the episode. And is anybody in any kind of suspense over whether Rodney, Ronon, and John will be back next season? We can probably write off the other Marines. I suppose the only bit of suspense in there is whether or not Lorne will survive.

As for The Ark of Truth, I remember when SG-1 was my main fandom. That was awhile ago now. I'm trying to decide if I even care enough to check the DVD out from the library at this point.

Onward to season 5.

Sumner, Gaul, misc soldiers and scientists (I believe every ep Martin wrote in the first part of season one had a death in it...he was known for that;) I was saying main characters in the sense "we know this person, some may say we love this person, we will feel their loss."

Okay, we have different definitions then. I consider those to be recurring characters. To me, main characters are the ones who get the majority of the screen time week after week. But as you said, not much room for peril in that "cliffhanger," especially with a bunch of expendable Marines handy.
