Please don't tell me I'm going to have to start watching this show with a spork in one hand in case of emergency.
Because if Keller and Ronon become a romantic item? I'm totally prepared to gouge my eyes out. Keller isn't necessarily Ronon's perfect romantic match just because his previous sweetie was a medical professional too. That makes about as much sense as Marvel turning Gambit and Rogue into a romantic item in the various X-Men comics just because they were the only two characters with Southern accents.
John and Rodney were so cute in the scene where Rodney broke the news that he was going to propose to Katie. John looked about as surprised as I felt (but was still very supportive), considering that Rodney and Katie seemed to still be in an awkward 'getting to know you' phase rather than having passed into 'couplehood' if you know what I mean. Katie certainly seemed surprised at how negative and pessimistic Rodney was in his helplessness during the crisis, but seriously, has she met Rodney? How has she not noticed this about him in all the time they were dating?
Katie's 'good-bye' at the end sounded suspiciously like a breakup. I honestly don't care one way or the other if they break up or live happily ever after, but if the relationship had to end, I like that it ended because they just discovered they weren't as compatible as they thought, rather than Katie dying a sudden and tragic (and totally clichéd) death in Rodney's arms.
After 3 1/2 seasons of Rodney saving the day, it was kind of cool to have an episode where Answer Man was trapped with no way to help and to see how he and the rest of Atlantis reacted to that.
John's been watching the same movies I have. I loved it when he started freaking out about being trapped with the pregnant woman because they always go into labor in the movies. Speaking of, what happened with Teyla? She was starting to show signs of feeling ill and possibly experiencing abdominal pain, which was one of the things that induced John to climb the tower to resolve the crisis, but then...nothing. She was fine. In fact, we barely saw her for the rest of the episode.
And John knows what 42 is! And he mentioned Batman not long after! I knew he was a closet fanboy.
Nitpick #1: The windows sure do break easily on buildings that were designed to fly through space and sink underwater. Yes, the city has a shield, but it doesn't always work. It wasn't working in the pilot when they gated into the city for the first time while it was underwater.
Nitpick #2: The weird shoulder straps on Teyla's top kept fooling me into thinking she was wearing a backpack when I saw her from the front.
Shallow moment #1: John climbing the tower (Yay! Joe got to show off his rock climbing skills!)
Shallow moment #2: John detonating the C4 right before they found Carter and Zelenka. I can't help it--I'm shallow. Jack O'Neill with a detonator in his hands made me weak in the knees too. ::hangs head in shame::

Date: 2008-01-19 07:59 pm (UTC)From:Katie was all wrong for Rodney long term, but I think she was a good learning experience for him. He was slowly learning how to be polite and considerate of others' needs. He needed somebody as patient and low-key as Katie to practice his people skills on. Now, he can go and use his improved people skills on someone who is a good match for him, but who he might not have been able to make a relationship work with if he hadn't gotten dating practice in with Katie.
