the_other_sandy: Yomiko Readman hugging a book (Agt. Paper Chibi)
I just got my first ever spam comment (on a post I made back in July). I know how to delete comments, but I'm pretty sure I've seen some people mention there's a way to block certain IP addresses from commenting in order to prevent this kind of thing from becoming a problem. Does anybody know how to do that?

Yup, you BAN then. That keeps the trolls away. I've done it once.

I don't know how to do that. Anybody? Bueller?

I've never done it (ban somebody), so I can't help you out on the finer details, but maybe this from the LJ FAQ will help:

Thanks. I can never find the FAQ page when I need it. I've gone and bookmarked it this time.

Unfortunately, it looks like banning users by their IP address is not an option, and the only way to prevent an anonymous user from posting is to screen/ban all anonymous users. Bummer. I have some friends who aren't on LJ who sometimes comment on my entries, so I guess I'll have to wait and see if this drive-by spamming is an isolated incident or the start of a problem before I decide to start screening.

Well, darn, I banned someone but they were a name user. Actually found the listing, but can't recall how I did it. You can screen anonymous users; I do that after one trollish remark full of bad language.
