I had a hard time picking a fic this week. Do I go for something really long for those who are having a holiday weekend? Do I go with the short crackfic that's been living in my brain rent-free all week? But then I figured the 4th of July weekend was as good a time as any to rec a story featuring a character who was born on the 4th of July.
This fic was written for a big bang back in 2012 and it's killing me that the links to the illustrations are broken (the one of the puppy in a little Captain America uniform with a little shield was adorable). [ETA: I'm reliably informed that the images show up for other people, just not me for some reason, so maybe they'll show up for you, too!] Anyway, it's one of those fics that deals with Steve trying to adjust to living in the 21st century when--from his perspective--he was just fighting in World War II a few months before. It also includes terrific guest appearances by Wolverine and Deadpool, and contains one of my favorite MCU fic tropes--Steve doing civilian things with civilians who only know him as that nice young man until something happens and they discover that nice young man is Captain America holy shit.
