A lot of my recs have been light-hearted because those are my comfort fics that I keep going back to, but this one is a post-series drama where Ray Vecchio hits a bump in his marriage to Stella and makes a surprise trip to small town Canada to talk it all out with sensible Fraser to see if he can make it work with Stella. His visit turns out to be a surprise to a great many people, given that Ray Kowalski and Fraser are on their third attempt to complete a task required before they can get married in a Salish ceremony and the whole town knows it.
I love the sense of community in this fic. You can really feel how RayK and Fraser have slotted themselves into this small town and become part of it. It also has a scene that was regularly voted Best Kiss back in my Yahoo!Groups days.
It is over 20 years old, though, and an artifact of the days when slash fic regularly had one character in each story who was close to one of the mains and tried to break them up for homophobia reasons.
