Fannish Fifty: A 2023 Posting Challenge

The 2023 Fannish Fifty Posting Challenge is being hosted by colls over at swannee. It's basically just a challenge to make 50 posts about fannish things over the course of 2023. You can bunch them all together, or spread them out over the year. You can choose a theme, or just post about any fannish thing across the fannish spectrum of things.

I haven't been feeling my fannish feelings much for a few years now, but the more I thought about this, the more I wanted to try it. Since I've been reading fic for over 35 years across a large number of fandoms, I thought it would be fun to try to do a "50 Fics Through the Ages" kind of thing with my favorite fics--the ones I've read over and over again because I love them.

These probably aren't going to be groundbreaking choices. In fact, if you've been in any of these fandoms, you've probably read these fics already. I just hope we can all enjoy the blasts from the past.

I'm thinking about doing something similar... starting from the first fandom I knew I was in and then work from there to present day. I'll probably write several posts per fandom and then fill the missing slots with some other fannish stuff.

I thought about doing it that way, but I was afraid I'd end up with too many posts in a row about the fandoms I was active in the longest. And my oldest fandom has stories that only exist in print zines. I want to stick to stories I can link to, so other people can read them if they want to.

I created a Word document with 50 templates for entry headers, and I figure I'll add fics to the document until all 50 slots are filled, but I'll be posting each fic based on my mood on the day.

This may be a good time to cull my bookmarks of fics that no longer interest me because my tastes have changed.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who makes templates or plans ahead like this! :D

I now have 12 fandoms to write about; what the fandom meant to me, do I remember the first fic I read, did I write fic for it, how much, how did it affect me, did I make new friends etc. And the rest of the available slots I'll fill with other, misc. fandom stuff.

Me too, to be honest. I've been going through my Pinboard and AO3 bookmarks and thinking 'ooh, I forgot about that one.' I found fic for fandoms I forgot I was even in.
