Called it.

After half a season of Dean playing out Sam's demon blood story arc like Castiel before him, now we have The Year of the Deanmon, a.k.a. The Year of Dean Playing Out Sam's Soulless Story Arc. I've been trying desperately to care, but I do not. I just hope it doesn't literally last all year.

I was mostly prepared to be bored as an old story line was given to a new brother like we've seen countless times before, but then Jeremy Carver gave a bitch/jerk moment to Dean and Crowley, and made Sam and Crowley sound like jealous boyfriends fighting over the same lover, and I found myself unexpectedly ragey over Writers Who Don't Get It. Remember the fandom rage explosion when the comics decided that John got the Impala from Mary's uncle or something after Mary died, even though he and the boys were clearly shown sitting on it while the house was on fire in the pilot, and in doing so totally negated the importance of the Impala as Sam and Dean's primary home? That's how I feel right now.

In order to try and stop myself from complaining about the same things I complained about back when Sam was soulless, and from repetitively complaining about how over Crowley I am (oh look, Crowley called Sam "Moose" again ::yawn::), I will be cross stitching Supernatural patterns during Supernatural this season, starting with Sam:







Don't worry, I also have a pattern for Dean, because brothers.

Sorry you didn't like the episode but on the plus side, I am very much looking forward to seeing your fannish cross stitch. Hope you will post pics here because I rarely check tumblr. Or at least post to tell me "hey, stupid, go look at tumblr." ;)

I'll be posting my Supernatural cross stitch here as part of my reaction posts, but the bulk of my WIPs will be confined to Tumblr. I will make posts here on LJ for finished works, though.

I actually enjoyed the episode. I was expecting much worse than we were given. My only complaint really were the Castiel scenes. If it doesn't have to do with the brothers, nobody cares.

I'm not interested in a separate storyline for Cas. If he and Sam teamed up to save Dean, I'd be happy. Especially as Sam needs someone to watch his back right now. If the angels storyline doesn't impact the boys' story, it shouldn't impact the story at all. But on the whole, I liked it.

(Though I will say, I felt like we were watching Evil!Jensen, not demon!Dean...)

I'm not really interested in any story line that puts the brothers at odds or keeps them apart. I just felt like everything in this episode had not only been done before, but done very thoroughly and there was no new ground to cover.

That may be, but as I said, I've lowered my expectations, so from that perspective it was quite good. There will always be two shows for me. Kripke's version, seasons 1-5, and this. I've given up expecting canon from this fanon version of spn. I just watch it for the pretty now. /shallow

Other things that are great on tv include: agents of shield, the flash, and arrow. In the spring we get GoT, and vikings. I will always love spn, but if I want quality tv, I'm looking somewhere else. It's sad, but...

I like The Flash (so far) and Arrow, but I just couldn't get into Agents of SHIELD. I wanted to like it so much, but in the end I did not. I also enjoy Sleepy Hollow and am waiting for the final season of Justified. Tim and Rachel had better get some lines this season.

Those who like that sort of thing will find that that's the sort of thing they like? I can't say it was objectively terrible (except for that bitch/jerk moment, which I do not forgive) and other people seemed to like it, but for me it was just wall-to-wall plot and character developments I've been bored to death with for awhile now. I'm also not really interested in any story line that puts the brothers at odds or keeps them apart. To each their own.

Once again, it seems the writers don't know what the hell they've got. Maybe it's because I fell in love with Zatoichi and Yojimbo and Samurai Jack - this could be the yin and yang of wandering samurai, Castiel with Sam and Crowley with Dean. The pay off coming at the winter Hellatus with Lucifer's prediction during the 100th episode coming to pass; however they tried it ends up the at the same place - where brother must face brother. . .

Jerks.

If the creators have to recycle plots, why can't they recycle good ones? Ones they haven't already recycled multiple times before?

When I told a friend that Dean as a demon was an even bigger douche, she said she didn't think that could be possible....

I just hope it doesn't last all season. I don't even know if I can deal with half a season. I suspect that my cross stitch projects will wind up being my favorite part of this season.
