I bet you were expecting a post about this week's episode. Nope, I'm still behind, but I'll get there.
Was there some Paradise Lost allegory going on that I missed, or does someone on the set really like the name Milton? Sam was working a case in Milton, Illinois, while Dean was training for the Olympic Drinking Team back in Kansas at a bar called The Milton.
Misha did a pretty good job directing his first episode. It mostly felt like a Supernatural episode, and there were only a couple of times his directing choices called attention to themselves. The shafts of light through the dust in St. Bonaventure's basement was very Ridley Scott.
I liked the case Sam was investigating. I wish he'd had to do a little more research, though, rather than have the former Sister Julia basically infodump the whole case into his lap. But I really liked Julia. It's probably too much to ask, but I'd like to see her in another episode.
The one good thing about Sam working a case on his own was that he got to save himself for once. I'm surprised it took one of them this long to think of that trick with the phone, but at the rate Sam gets strangled I'm not surprised it was him.
Meanwhile, Dean continues to reenact Sam's demon blood arc. I really hope there's a "Hey, Sam, sorry about all the years I gave you crap over your addiction and hanging out with a demon who was playing you now that I have an addiction and am hanging out with a demon who's playing me. Now I see how easy it is to fall off the path while acting with the best of intentions" when it's all over, but I'm not holding my breath.
I'm just curious how Show will handle Dean's addiction to the First Blade, since it's done a really lousy job of doing anything with Dean's alcohol issues other than giving them to him.
