Angel Ward

Pattern by F.P. Molina.

This is the angel ward from Supernatural. I used DMC 815 because it was the darkest, bloodiest red I already had in my thread box, but it turned out to be a good choice. It's much bolder than the photo makes it look.

And I stitched it while watching the annual Severe Storms Seminar at Fermilab for maximum geekiness.

I plan to make the other two patterns on that page, too. The tattoo will be easy because we know what color it is, but I don't think I want to stitch the devil's trap on black aida cloth. My eyes aren't that good, and neither is the lighting in my apartment. Hasn't the devil's trap been drawn/painted with whatever's been handy? I'm pretty sure we've seen them in white, black, and orange at one time or another. Anybody have any suggestions for what color would look good on white and would go with the red in this angel ward and the black of the anti-possession tattoo?

P.S. -- The angel ward was still in the hoop when I took the photo, so I was trying to crop the hoop out. You would not believe how not at all intuitive it is to crop a photo into a circle and stick it on a colored background in GIMP. Thank goodness for online tutorials, because GIMP's help menu was the most useless thing ever.

ETA: There's nothing like posting pictures of your stitching all over the Internet to make you see where you screwed up your stitch count. I just noticed it today (Apr. 8). Fortunately the errors were in the very last 2 rows, so I only had to pull and redo 9 stitches. Which I did. I'm not re-taking/editing/posting a photo, but I did fix it and rest assured the error was mine and not the pattern's.

That is so cool! Love the dark bloody red - its perfect! The protection tattoo will be great, too. As for the Devil's Trap, I can't recall at the moment all the times it was used - I know it was pretty crudely drawn in chalk on the underside of the old water tower in Crossroad Blues...

...and other than that, I'm envisioning it sort of half shown in a bunch of eps where the boys flip back part of a rug or something to reveal it underneath.

If *I* was going to cross stitch it, I'd want it like the 'original' from the S1 finale with Meg and that would be stitched on the cream or natural color aida with dark grey or black thread so it would look like this pic...

Or if you really want it in white - to match the others - you could do it like the book where Sam originally saw it...

...and do it on white aida with dark grey thread. I think that would look awesome.

Keep me posted - I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with this and with the protection tattoo. =)

Thanks for pointing me at the screencaps site. Wow, they've really simplified the devil's traps since the pilot. I guess that makes sense, since the boys don't usually have hours and hours to draw protection symbols, plus it's hard to do fine details with spray paint.

Now that I've had a chance to double-check, yay! I correctly remembered Sam using orange spray paint (http://www.homeofthenutty.com/supernatural/screencaps/displayimage.php?album=56&pid=15914#top_display_media) in "Jus in Bello." I'm not sure I want to duplicate the 'orange spray paint on institutional linoleum' look, but I now feel justified in choosing whatever color I want. I'll have to go through the thread box again and see what goes with red, black, and white.

Isn't that a cool pattern? And the pattern designer (F.P. Molina) must have gotten a pingback when I linked to her site, because she emailed me last night through LJ and told me I was the first person she knew of who had ever made something from one of her patterns. Personally, I don't know why all of Supernatural's crafting fandom hasn't stitched one of these already.
