So, Harvey Weinstein thinks that Midwesterners are too stupid to watch Snowpiercer and need a special cut of the film to understand it. I wish I were making that up.

Dear Mr. Weinstein,

Have you ever actually been to the Midwest? We have indoor plumbing and electricity and everything. We even manage to congregate in areas called "cities," some of which are of a considerable size and contain things like museums and schools.

So thank you in advance for the "stuff blowed up real good" edition of Bong Joon-ho's SF class struggle allegory, but if you find that it "doesn't play in Peoria," it's not because we're all too stupid to understand it. It's because we're smart enough to wait for the real movie to come out on video.

No love,

Sandy (no, the other one)

Amen sister. I get so sick of people thinking they have to "dumb things down" for us. Being from the Midwest doesn't mean you're stupid! ::shakes fist::

Of course it does! Obviously we're not smart enough to move to New York or L.A. [/sarcasm]

Wow. If he feels that way about mid-westerners, I'd hate to find out what he thinks about southerners (I'm so embarrassed to be from the same region as Honey Boo-boo and Duck Dynasty, just to name two). Weinstein has obviously never grasped the fact that the average sci-fi fan is a lot more intelligent and all around savvy than people who think American Idol and The Bachelor are great television.

My sympathies. I'm embarrassed to be from the same planet as Honey Boo-Boo and the people who watch that crap.

And everyone knows that SF fans are idiots. Just look at Sharknado. [/sarcasm]

Hey! Sharknado was cheese-o-licious fun! And there was that whole deep, underlying commentary on the disparity in the socio-economic diversity of southern California. I'm sure there will be doctoral candidates including this in the bibliographies of their dissertations for decades. Don't you think? ;)

Sure, this and Birdemic. And maybe Mansquito.

This sort of thing really irritates. Just because some of us choose to live in the middle of the US doesn't mean we have no taste or are uneducated or are brain dead. Hell, we have legal marriage equality in these parts! Sheesh.

Personally, I'd rather see the original movie than a gutted version. In fact, I'm way less likely to spend money of a version I know is gutted. I'll wait for the dvd, thank you very much.

I know! And it sounds like it's going to be all the character development that's going to be hacked out in favor of action. I have nothing against action, but it's the character development that makes me care about the people involved in the action and get invested in the outcome of the action.

Too true!

It's why so many action movies fail to perform, movie makers seem to forget that the audience needs to care about the characters.
