H50 Ep: Aloha, Malama Pono

We've got an impressive thunderstorm rolling in right now, so here's hoping the power doesn't go out. I have my flashlight right next to me just in case (not that it would help with posting if the power went out to my computer and router).

That just didn't feel like a season finale to me. The story seemed to flit around like a hummingbird without actually settling on anything. And Steve was the only one who got a cliffhanger, while the rest of his team got a romantic hook-up instead.

I just wasn't getting 'one true love' vibes from Kono and Adam that would cause Kono to leave everything behind and run off to Shanghai with him. That relationship came totally out of the blue, and what little we've seen of it on screen has pretty much entirely involved lies and mistrust. If Show wanted me to actually feel something for these two crazy kids and their star-crossed love, it should have done a better job of selling me on how much they belonged together. Frankly I thought Kono had better chemistry with Charlie Fong.

Oh, well. At least they didn't kill Kono off, so there's a good chance we'll see her again. I don't know if Grace Park is coming back or not--and I never thought I'd say this--but after a season of poor decision-making and mooning over Adam, it doesn't make a whole lot of difference to me whether she does or not.

Doris continues to boggle my mind by lying to Steve's face, then demanding he trust her. I do like it when Steve calls her 'Doris' instead of 'Mom' though. And I also liked that he immediately asked Doris what her real motive was for escorting Kono and Adam to Shanghai, because I was wondering the same thing. Unfortunately, the complete lack of resolution of her storyline means she'll be back next season. Yay. ::feigns enthusiasm::

My favorite scene was probably the one where Danny continued to make friends at the CIA. I bet he has quite the reputation with them now.

So can Danny please have an 'in jeopardy' cliffhanger next season? He seems to be the only one who never gets to have one. Season 1 was about whether or not he would leave Hawaii to be with a pregnant Rachel. Season 2 was about whether he'd lose Grace when Rachel and Stan moved to Las Vegas. This season, nothing. Well, except for surprise Gabby after she apparently broke up with him last week and who somehow has a key to someplace Danny wasn't living yet when she left for Morocco.

I'm not exactly going to be waiting on tenterhooks for next season's opener.

Meh. With everything they tried to cram into that episode, they could have have 3-4 good ones. Frankly, the whole terrorist subplot seemed like it was just an excuse to have Steve visit Wo Fat and find out that his mother had been there. (How did she even get authorization to visit someone in an overly-secure prison, anyway?)

The only half-way believable romantic get-together this episode was Chin calling Leilani. Kono decides to leave her family, friends, and the job she "can't imagine not doing" for a guy she loves so much that she bugs his phone. Danny is thrilled to see Gabby after she leaves for months, then waits until he's at the airport waiting to pick her up to tell him that she's not really planning to come back. Catherine runs into some guy she was obviously involved with, but she can't see him now because she has a thing with Steve. Seriously, Show? You're going to set up a plot-teaser that low-key in the series finale?

This whole episode was just full of "Um, what?"

Yeah, it was all very 'because the script said so' and not because anything made any actual sense.
