the_other_sandy: Black and white TV (TV)
Annoyed Sandy (no, the other one) is annoyed.

You know, sometimes I'd really like to be able to sit down with the writers and ask them what the hell they're thinking, besides OMG THERE'S ONLY TWO EPISODES LEFT AND WE HAVE A MILLION DROPPED PLOTLINES TO RESOLVE OMG, which seems to be what they were mostly thinking tonight.

Let's start with Gabby. So they write Danny into a relationship with Gabby, but then Autumn Reeser gets cast in a series of her own and becomes unavailable. Bummer. But instead of writing her out of Danny's life, they decide to give Danny and Gabby a long-distance relationship by way of Morocco (Morocco!) for nine months (nine!), theoretically while waiting until Autumn Reeser becomes available again. And then Autumn's series gets canceled and she does become available again, so the writers can finally give Gabby and Danny some scenes, right? Yay! Except for how they suddenly decide to end the barely-mentioned relationship instead, without Gabby ever reappearing even though she is now available to reappear. How did that make sense in their heads?

Moving on to the giant clusterfuck that was Doris' storyline, really Steve? Your biggest objection to Doris' "covert op" is that she's too old? Way to be an ageist dick. How about this for an alternative objection: you have to belong to an organization that can authorize a covert op before you can run a covert op. Otherwise it's just called breaking and entering (and criminal trespass and burglary). And since Doris is doing this on her own, you can indeed arrest her (and Wade and Mick) for planning the crimes they are about to commit. And as a complete aside, planning all this, which did not take an afternoon, means that Doris trusted Wade and Mick enough to confide in them about what she was doing, but not Steve. And Doris? Deciding to suddenly do a magic trick for your son in the middle of committing a crime and while braced on the ledge of an elevator shaft is, sadly, not the most ridiculous thing you've ever done, but did you have to act like he was still in elementary school when you did it?

And finally, there was the clusterfuck that was Kono's storyline. Yay, the writers finally remembered Kono had a clone of Adam's phone, but are we really supposed to believe that's the first suspicious call made or received on that phone since January? And even after hearing the call herself, Kono still believed everything Adam said and was ready to tell him all about how mean and untrustworthy she was by cloning his phone. I'd say she was saved by the CT scan, but Adam found out anyway. And what do you know? Two calls in one afternoon on a phone that apparently hasn't had a single call in five months. Oh, and we finally found out who Michael killed with Kono's gun. I guess we'll have to wait until next season for Five-0 to figure it out.

And we didn't even get an episode 23 hug to help make everything better. Really, the only thing I liked about this ep was Steve trying to take off and do things by himself again, only to have Danny chase him down and force him to talk about it. Remember, Steve, there is no "my own" in a friendship.

If the pictures I've seen are right Gabby might be in the finale but I had thought it was tonight's show. I too don't know why they didn't drop the Gabby storyline and find another actress - a local actress, maybe "gasp!" a native Hawaiian actress - to play Danny's girlfriend. I mean she and Danny dated for what, a couple of months and he waits 9 months for her to come back? Must have been a passionate love affair but of course that's hard to tell from the 4 minutes we actually saw the two of them together over the course of a year.

Please Mrs. McG, just go away.

and this is why I don't understand why people are getting all freaking out happy that she's back. no telling if she's going to come back next year for them to make a proper go at a relationship

I'm completely indifferent as to whether Gabby comes back or not. I'd just like to see something done with her and Danny's relationship, whether she comes back or leaves for good.

I can't really argue with any of your points here - there's been many a FUBAR-ed storyline this season. But as usual, you pick up on things I miss because I'm too busy focusing on stuff like the back of Alex's neck! In particular in this post, what you said about Adam's phone! That had not even occurred to me but holy crap, now that you point it out, it is ridiculous to think he's had no phone calls in all this time!

That said, I enjoyed it more than you. I found enough good stuff to overlook the admittedly semi-truck sized plot holes. Oh, and thanks for that little bit of info about Autumn - I didn't know she was in a series this year. I have to agree its a tad mindboggling what they've done with her character just in this episode.

I would have liked this ep much better with a hug - hell, every ep is better with a hug! But I loved that Steve/Danny part that you did. And I love that you closed with... Remember, Steve, there is no "my own" in a friendship. =)

I hate being Ranty McRantypants, but sometimes I wonder how much effort the writers put into these stories and/or how stupid they think we are.

Your first line says it all. That's what's becoming a gross wad of undealable with stuff on this show for me. (yeah you notice the coherent grammar in my plea of outrage?) God, I just wish i could clock them over the head sometimes, how stupid do they think we are, indeed.

This episode had so much stupid, I don't know where to start. I loved Danny chasing down Steve and making him explain what was happening, which apparently included Steve telling him the whole story afterwards, too. It didn't stop Steve from doing stupid crap, but at least he wasn't trying to (well, not succeeding in) hiding it from Danny.

Sadly, Kono seems to have decided that that was her cue to go off without telling anyone when she was going to do some breaking and entering. I guess Danny and Chin have to wait until the next episode to do something stupid and illegal, although if they're lucky, that will include pounding Micheal Noshimuri's head into the pavement.

I couldn't believe Steve called Kono out on not waiting for back-up. She was just emulating her hero, Steve, and that would be you.
