Geez, and it's not even my birthday!

Okay, it's not like I wasn't spoiled all to heck and gone for the final scene of this episode (and I certainly didn't watch it a dozen or so times beforehand, no, not me), but what am I supposed to do with this? Steve spends his make-out time with Catherine watching homicidal Chucky out of the corner of his eye, then spends a romantic chick flick cuddling with Danny while Catherine sits way on the other end of the couch? It's like Show is handing my slash goggles to me and helping me put them on. And if you haven't seen the trailer for the next episode, well, no spoilers from me, but holy crap I cannot wait for next week. It's like Christmas came early!

On the other hand, Five-0 apparently had the dumb today. Did the entire task force really not know all of that stuff about pentagrams? Because I'm pretty sure everyone over the age of 15 does, and not just the ones who watch Supernatural. And you'd think Danny had never cleared a house before the way he kept loudly calling out to Steve and asking him what he was doing while Steve headed upstairs with his duty weapon drawn, instead of, you know, shutting up, drawing his weapon, and covering his partner. But on the plus side, at least Kono pronounced "Samhain" correctly, which is more than can be said for anyone in the Supernatural ep "It's the Great Pumpkin, Sam Winchester" (every single character in that episode pronounced it "Sam Hane").

In other bzuh? moments:

• Are we really supposed to believe that Kamekona was wearing Steve's tac vest? Because that thing could wrap around Steve twice.

• Doris is on Maui visiting friends? What friends? She's been dead for 20 years. When did she have time to make friends with people on Maui? Or is she just randomly looking up old friends from before to say, "Surprise! Not so much with the dead! Wanna play canasta?"

• I would have found it far more believable that Grace didn't want to go trick-or-treating at a skeevy motel again than that she thought her Danno would rather work than be with her.

• And the most implausible thing? That a house on Oahu would be left to rot for 20 years. In that housing market? No. Seriously. Even if it was completely condemned from the start, a developer could still make a killing razing it and building something else there.

Oh, well. The thing about shiny, shiny slash goggles is that they make it harder to care about the plot holes while you're looking at Steve and Danny snuggling their way through The Notebook.

Is it next week yet? No? How about now? ::bounces::

I handwaved the dumb occult stuff--but when they said the house was abandoned it totally knocked me out of the story! LOL I was like, WHAT! Bullshit! With the price of real estate on Oahu! No way!

Clearly Supernatural has us well trained to handwave dumb occult stuff.

your comments about Doris making friends on Maui had me laughing so much!

and I pretty much agree with your other comments

Yeah I was literally falling on the floor laughing over your Doris comments, cause I didn't even think of it initially. My mind was still boggling over two people, who have been having sex together for years, necking on the couch on Halloween night watching Chucky. Add the abandoned house, pentagrams, and psycho dude living with Grandma-how many cliches can they throw into one episode!

I felt like I was watching Supernatural for most of the episode.

My daughter started watching it with me and while he was getting ready to gank the girl she says "this looks like it's going to get gory. I think I will go now." I said, "Oh hun, it's Hawaii 5-0 not Supernatural it won't be too gross." Of course I had to then say, "Oops my bad, I guess Supernatural is in Hawaii today."

I pretty much agree with all you say (especially Danny in the haunted house, but that made me laugh, like he was so into the "ghost" thing he forgot he was a grown man and a cop, too!) - Also love your comment about Doris, lol!
About the abandonned house, I can believe that. I live in a very expensive, touristic place (Saint-Tropez!) and there are such big houses with enormous value that are abandoned for decades because of unresolved inheritance issues.
That said, thanks for sharing your comments, it's great to continue a little longer with the episode!

I just have an issue with Danny "forgetting" he was a cop just because he was in a creepy abandoned house. He spends a lot of time in creepy places, usually looking either for bodies or people with guns.

I had no idea there were so many inheritance issues with houses like that. You'd think those would be the people with lawyers on retainer and estate planning out the wazoo.

I just want to say that the scene at the end almost made me forgive them for the McDanno-less mess that was season 2. Almost.

I think Steve and Danny have had more screen time in the first 5 episodes of this season than they did all of last season combined.

I have to watch again but I thought STeve said Doris was visiting 'new friends' which would be at least a passing attempt to make that make sense but maybe I was hearing things. You make a lot of excellent points about the bzuh moments here - the real estate thing in particular. That hadn't occured to me, but now that you point it out, its kind of glaring.

Show giving us the slash goggles makes it all worthwhile, though. Who cares what the plot is while Danny and Steve are snuggled up watching The Notebook? =)

Yeah, I'm a week behind, but I still had to read your commentary. I don't want spoilers, but I do look at your emoticons to get a hint of whether it's a good episode or not, so I've been looking forward to this all week!

Can I nominate Catherine for sainthood based on this episode? She puts up with having the Halloween cuddles interrupted by Kamekona, Danny, a case, Steve's wandering eyes, and Danny again, this time with a kid to really kill the mood. In between, she picks up Grace and offers a little auntie/big-sister advice on dealing with absent fathers. I'm starting to understand why Steve was a little unsure of how to describe his thing with Catherine. What I don't understand is why the fandom hasn't erupted into OT3 stories. ;>

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who wondered how no one in the super-spiffy task force had ever heard of Wiccans/Pagans/Satanists (and their differences!) before this. I thought all major cities were required to have at least one idiotic Satanist scare every five years, if only from some zealot pitching a fit over the latest fantasy trend.

I'll believe the house being left derelict while someone fights out inheritance issues. Yeah, the original owner probably had a good lawyer, but the potential heirs probably have good lawyers too and a lot of motivation to keep fighting until the lawyers have every last penny available.

I love your idea of Doris going around to old friends to break the news that she isn't really dead. She'll probably get mad at them for moving on with their lives and come back way too soon for my tastes though. :P

I was wondering what happened to you.

Catherine deserved sainthood long before this, what with the way she put up with Steve only calling her when he wanted something.

So Catherine's three miracles are not killing Steve, not killing Kamekona, and not killing Danny?

Also, it figures that this week's episode is that one that kicks everyone's muse into high gear. At least I should have time to watch it over the weekend.

You may even want to make time to watch it more than once. There's a reason there's a ton of fic about it. Lenkov slashes McDanno so hard.
