So I'm very late in posting this in that day 3 was actually last Sunday. In my defense, I drove directly from the con in Wisconsin to my BF's in Illinois for an evening of The Avengers on Blu-ray. I didn't get home until after midnight. Monday was spent paying many bills, running errands, and squeeing about Hawaii Five-0 because I am a multifandom ho'. ::nods::
Anyway, Sunday was a day of multitasking. I listened to many interesting panels while reading H50 spoilers and looking at pretty, pretty pictures of Chris Evans on my laptop.
The first panel of the day was a spoiler panel, which I skipped. It's funny, but there are some shows I devour spoilers for (see previous comment about H50), and some shows I just don't want to. Supernatural is one of those shows I avoid spoilers for, mostly because they never make me happy, yet they turn out to not be so bad when I actually see the episode. At this point, I'd rather be surprised than stew about them.
The first panel I did attend was on how the writers pick and choose from various world mythologies to create their own. Sometimes they stick pretty closely to the myth, sometimes they cherry pick certain parts to suit the plot, and sometimes they just take the name and make the rest up. For instance, although the show calls it Purgatory, the portrayal of the place actually resembles Limbo.
The next panel was on how hacking and lockpicking are portrayed on the show, and what's possible in the real world and what isn't. That was followed by the annual group photo (this is the only con I attend where the entire staff and membership can all fit in one picture) and raffle. I should have known I wasn't going to do well in the raffle when I saw my ticket number was 13, even though this con is so small that everyone wins something. I won the very last prize being raffled (a copy of one of the tie-in books), because I can apparently only win a raffle prize when my ticket is the only one in the bowl.
After that, we played a group game where we put literary archetypes on the wall and tried to assign the main and recurring characters to them. Some were very easy and some were a split vote, but we never could figure out where to put Lisa. ETA: Oh, and I wasordered asked politely by
asyouleft to inform everyone that
asyouleft was the best speaker ever and her panel was the best of the whole weekend. Or was that the other way around? ;-)
We ended with some non-spoilery speculation on where we thought season 8 was going to go, or where we wanted it to go, and who we wanted to see back in what capacity. And then I ran away to watch The Avengers with my BF.
At this point, I don't know how much I'll miss the show when it's gone, but I will miss the people at this con.
