One new episode and then another rerun? Pooey.
Of course, it does make sense to rerun the Kensi Blye episode before the big crossover.
I was not as excited as some people were to see Mary again. Mostly I just found her annoying last season, but after seeing the deleted scenes on the season 1 DVD set, I really couldn't stand her. And once again she has no motivation to clean up her act because Steve is there to fix her big giant mess for her.
I did have to agree with her about how cute it is that Steve and Danny are surf buddies now, although I'm a little ticked at the writers for making Danny such a douchenozzle while he's at it. I have a hard time believing Kono never taught him surf etiquette when she was giving him lessons, and Danny is such a 'proper procedure, by the book, rules of civilized behavior' kind of guy that I have trouble seeing him just blowing off the "surfing rules" like that.
On the other hand, it was awesome seeing Danny do clever police things the whole episode. And Steve's birthday cakes were cute.
Maybe I'm getting too used to the plot shenanigans on this show, but the second Mary said that her friend Angela (a) got her the job, (b) was kidnapped to force her to smuggle the diamonds, and (c) had only been her friend for three months, I was sure she was in on it. I did love how August March pulled one over on everybody and ended up with the diamonds, though. I hope we see him again.

Date: 2012-03-21 06:58 am (UTC)From:I was okay with Mary here, but I have to say, I totally agree with you in that her deleted S1 scenes were pretty awful and probably should have stayed deleted.
That August March ending bit was awesome. It would be cool if they could bring him back in some way again.

Date: 2012-03-21 01:25 pm (UTC)From:It just reminded me of the Halloween ep when he was being so disrespectful of local customs, only this time it was surfing customs instead of religious customs. I know the writers are going for a 'laugh at the haole' thing, but the Danny I know is more respectful than that.

Date: 2012-03-22 02:01 am (UTC)From:Mary comes off as overly whiny and annoying for me, generally, but I didn't think she was too bad in this episode. Yeah, she ended up in a colossal mess, and Steve helped her out of it. However, this one really wasn't her fault, beyond trusting Angela. Frankly, I'm surprised that no one on the law-enforcement side suspected Angela of being in on the deal. It's a coincidence that someone you've known for three months gets you a job as a flight attendant and then gets kidnapped to pressure you into smuggling? I don't think so.
I was wondering if August March was in on it from the beginning, so I like how he was handled. The ending was very nicely played! I wouldn't mind seeing him again, although they'll have to be careful not to overdo the crotchety old guys.

Date: 2012-03-22 03:23 am (UTC)From:I actually wouldn't mind if people were explaining how Danny was getting the culture wrong and he treated it as a learning experience, but they're explaining how Danny is getting the culture wrong and then he tells them their culture is stupid, which doesn't sit right with me.
I didn't think she was too bad in this episode.
She was less annoying than previously, and she mercifully didn't get as much screen time as I feared.
