the_other_sandy: Black and white TV (TV)
I'm experiencing a post-awesome ep depression where any episode following a truly squee-worthy ep like last week's feels like a letdown by comparison even though it wasn't that bad.

Poor Danny. He's going to be using Chin's Computer Table of Awesome to research convents now, isn't he. And poor Grace. She's not going to be allowed to date until she's 40. Maybe. With a chaperone. And a chastity belt.

It was cute how Tony and Steve first met at gunpoint and offered to put their guns down on a count of three. And poor Steve fell for it because look how well it worked out with Danny.

I mostly liked Tony Archer, but I'm not sure how I feel about him becoming a recurring character if the show decides to go that way. On the plus side, Scott lights up when he acts opposite his dad, and that was fun to watch. Also, if JerseyCop!Danny gets to interact with another of his species, that means that we get to see more of Danny's skills and knowledge as a Jersey cop, and also more of JerseyBoy!Danny as he gets to talk about home with someone who understands. The biggest plus would be that Tony isn't heavily tied to Steve the way Jenna, Joe, and Lori were, so Alex might get to sleep in once in a while. I think I may also be a little bit in love with the idea of Steve & Danny having a marriage counselor.

On the not-so-plus side, we just saw how badly recurring characters can screw up the cast chemistry on this show, and it's probably a little too soon to be introducing another one. However, if Tony appears in, say, Kamekona or Sang Min amounts and doesn't completely hijack the show like Joe did, it might be fun to see him again. He'd make a great but annoying uncle for Grace. I have a feeling Grace's potential boyfriends would all get a tour of Tony's bait box.

Oh, I hear you on the post-awesome ep syndrome. I was kind of bracing for that, too, but I think the presence of James derailed that for me. It wasn't as great as last week's, by any means, but I still enjoyed it. I don't think we'll see a lot of Tony, though, but I do like that they left it open for him to come back for maybe another guest appearance down the road.

I realize I'm probably worried about nothing, but we just finally cleared the decks and got back to the original cast. I wish they'd waited longer than one episode before introducing a new possibly recurring character.

Papa Caan has made comments that he kind of got tired of/bored with doing series TV after awhile of doing his own series (he was the lead in the NBC series Las Vegas for, like, 4 seasons--he left at the start of the show's 5th season citing the desire to do other projects, aka "he got bored" doing the same thing every week, even with the handsome paycheck I'm almost positive he was getting per ep).

If he agreed to reprise the character I doubt, on this basis--plus his advancing age, although he clearly seems to want to continue to act as long as he's able to, he'd do it more than once or twice a season... even with the added perk of getting to spend almost 10 days acting & hanging out with his son (whom he clearly adores/is adored by) in a really beautiful part of the US.

It was so nice to finally get back to the original cast and their amazing chemistry. I needed more than one episode of that before the show introduced yet another potentially recurring character.

Is there any chance he will become a recurring character? I think not.

I also really enjoyed the East Coast attitude oozing off Danny and Tony. Very fun to watch :)

Lenkov said in an interview that the character had the potential to be recurring, and they clearly left the door open for that at the end of the episode.

I was just so happy to finally get back to the original cast and their amazing chemistry. I don't need yet another potentially recurring character already.

This was a fun eppy and it was a gas to have two back to back like this. Steve putting his gun down didn't seem like he fell for anything (I don't think), he saw Danny sneaking up behind their suspect and just went along with lowering his weapon to end the stand-off.

The biggest plus would be that Tony isn't heavily tied to Steve the way Jenna, Joe, and Lori were, so Alex might get to sleep in once in a while.

That would be nice. There hasn't been a single Steve-lite eppy this season and the show should have a few built in every year to give poor Alex a break.

I think the idea of Tony as 'reoccurring' can be defined as meaning more than once, leaving the door open for him to pop up next season. I don't see them overusing Tony or Mr. Cann wanting to do it very often but that is just a gut feeling.

I don't see that either, but then I also didn't foresee Joe White completely hijacking the show the way he did.

I really liked this episode. It was so obvious where Scott gets his bantering skills! Tony giving both Danny and Steve grief was lovely, particularly the comments about their telepathy and them needing a marriage counselor. I don't want him to become a regular character, but I would definitely support him getting bits every few episodes.

Danny needs to get a grip on the whole Grace talking to boys thing. If he keeps overreacting any time someone with a Y chromosome talks to her, she's going to tune out his legitimate concerns, too. However, it got us a nice cargument, so I guess I can't complain too much. ;>

I think he just needs to get used to the idea that his little girl is growing up. He's usually a step or two behind her in that, but he has shown the ability to adjust eventually. Early in the series, he wildly objected to the idea of Grace in a bikini, but we've seen her in one twice since then and Danny didn't say anything about it.

I hope Danny can adjust; maybe Kono can talk with him. Although, now that I think about it, Kono telling him about some of her experiences growing up may not be the best way to keep Danny from taking out a blanket restraining order to keep all males away from his daughter. Kono doesn't strike me as the innocent and virginal type, and I don't think "This is what I got up to and look how I turned out!" is really going to reassure Danny.
