Well, that was nerve-racking.
One of the things I've always loved about the big emotional episodes is how Steve and Danny balance each other out. If one is upset, the other makes an effort to be extra calm. Steve only let himself freak out when Danny wasn't with him. And how awesome was it that Steve was just as upset about the threat to Danny and his family as Danny was?
Steve is clearly rubbing off on Danny this season. First Danny taunted a suspect with a live grenade a few episodes ago, and then tonight alone he tried to drown a fugitive, shot a handcuffed prisoner, and did some driving that ensures he never gets to complain about Steve's driving ever again. Although my favorite? Danny body-checking Painter into the pool without getting wet. If that were Steve, he would've tackled Painter and landed in the pool himself. And possibly taken off his shirt to dry off. Wait...why is that a bad thing again?
Rick was a real sleazebag. Did anyone catch who played him? His bone structure reminded me of the Wellers (actors Peter and Frederick). Not only is Rick not dead, but he failed to get revenge on Danny and Danny shot him. I'm thinking this will not make Rick less pissed off. I hope we see him again. Except for how I kind of don't, because did I mention he was a real sleazebag?
I just hope Rachel doesn't try to take visitation away from Danny again. Grace getting kidnapped was way worse than her hiding in the bathroom during the football game shooting last season. I think Rachel and Danny are getting along much better now than they were then, but Rachel is still a very upset mother of a very upset elementary schooler. Actually, all Rachel and Stan would have to do is move away from Hawai'i. Danny seems to have blown his savings moving there from Jersey. I doubt he could afford to follow them if they moved to Australia or Singapore or something. It'll be interesting to see what kind of relationship Danny has with the Edwardses after Grace's kidnapping and Danny shooting Stan.

Kinda what i was thinking...
Loved this episode. Didn't miss Joe AT ALL. I can't truthfully say I didn't think about him... since I caught myself TWICE thinking "Gee, I don't miss Joe at all."

Date: 2012-02-09 03:33 am (UTC)From:On a brighter note, Danny was definitely channeling his inner Steve in this episode. I love Steve having to be the voice of reason at the pool. He looked so confused being on the other end of things!
Steve having to take his shirt off after tackling Painter into the pool would not have been a bad thing, but Danny's take-down was pretty sweet. For that matter, Danny having to take off his shirt after tackling Painter into the pool wouldn't have been bad either, but I'll give the stay-dry body checking more BAMF points.
I hope Rachel doesn't try to take Grace away from Danny again. I was pretty impressed that he managed to look like he was following Rick's orders while doing as little damage to Stan as possible. If someone had been threatening my kid and messing with my head like that, I doubt I'd have the presence of mind to fake compliance as well as Danny did.

Date: 2012-02-09 03:07 pm (UTC)From:That's the unfortunate thing. We've had to sacrifice the Steve/Danny banter (which they are terrific at) in favor of Lori/whoever banter, and she's just not very good at it. And some of the banter as written was actually very cute, it was just her delivery that killed it dead.

I love 'work smarter, not harder' Danny.

Me either. Not only did he mostly fake it with Stan, he also got Rachel and the baby safe at HPD so he didn't have to worry about them too. And he almost managed to keep his back-up piece. It was only because Rick knew him so well that he couldn't pull that off.
