the_other_sandy: Black and white TV (TV)
I almost missed the show tonight. I'm too used to my shows starting up again around the third week of January. Fortunately I have fandom to tell me these things.

Wow, and I thought I didn't like Joe before. I can kind of see how he thinks he's protecting Steve if I turn my head and squint a lot, but to barge around the island like a bull in a china shop stirring up trouble wherever he goes, then accuse Steve of starting a war with the yakuza? Screw you very much, Joe. Steve was tortured over the crap you're mucking around in and you faked the death of the head of the yakuza. You are not Batman. You're not even a SEAL anymore. You should be down on your knees thanking Steve for not arresting you 47 times since you arrived in Hawaii.

I feel bad for Steve over his basically having a falling-out with his father figure, but on the other hand I'm glad Steve finally decided to call Joe on his big bag of BS. Maybe now Steve will work on this whole Wo Fat/Shelburne/whatever thing with the people who have always had his back. And, Steve? You should have made Joe take a cab.

Now that I've gotten that off my chest, I did like Danny having a difference of opinion over whether or not it's okay for a grown man to have sex with a 17-year-old girl. If I can't have Daddy Danno moments with Grace, who seems to have fallen off the face of the earth this season, then I'll take them with Danny upbraiding people for not treating other people's kids right.

P.S. -- I updated the H50 Newbieguide at the [livejournal.com profile] newbieguide comm yesterday. I added some new comms, removed some dead ones, and updated the Twitter list. If you're looking for some new comms to join, pop on over and take a look.

I myself had a definite GRRR moment when Joe told Steve he'd started a war with the yakuza. Although I'm tired of being teased with all the Shelburn stuff. My patience for long, drawn-out plot arcs that get parceled out one tidbit every few episodes pretty much got fired by LOST after year 2. (Although I reserve near-infinite patience for Supernatural).

Who besides the principal did not think it's creepy/wrong to sleep with a 17-year-old girl? But good on Danno for jumping all over that.

PS Thanks for pointing me to [livejournal.com profile] newbieguide, I didn't know about it and I can see where it will come in handy to find! Your update looks like a LOT of work.

My patience for long, drawn-out plot arcs is directly related to how much I care about them. At this point, the whole Shelburne thing just seems to be a distraction from the real show, which used to be about ohana. Where did all the character stuff go?

The [livejournal.com profile] newbieguide comm used to be a lot more active. It was a huge help to me in finding comms to join for all my fandoms when I first joined LJ (there are tons of fandoms listed there).

And yeah, updating the H50 newbieguide takes a little more work each time. Our little fandom is growing up. ::wipes away tear:: I just don't know how the people who maintain newbieguides for big fandoms like Supernatural do it. That must be unbelievably labor-intensive.

18-year-olds having sex with 17-year-olds is one thing. Even 20-year-olds wouldn't be so bad. Someone who's probably more than twice her age and the headmaster at her school -- really, really creepy and wrong.

Yes, this, absolutely. Glad I'm not the only one wanting less long-ass intrigue and more of the character arcs. Seems like even the travel-brochure-worthy Hawaiian views felt cheated this episode. I'm ready for Joe to stop being a pain in Steve's ass and get real.

I'm ready for Joe to stop being a pain in my ass and go away. I am so done with his character.

I'm with you and [livejournal.com profile] seesmooshrun on the whole Joe/Shelburne thing. Steve should just leave Joe to get beat up by the yakuza next time, if that's how the guy feels about it. Maybe now that Steve knows Hiro Noshimuri isn't dead, he can find him and convince his son not to take out hits on everyone in 5-0.

Was it just me, or did it seem like the rest of this episode was just a bunch of plot fragments that got thrown together to give everyone something to do while the Joe/Shelburne thing ran in the background? The whole murder investigation didn't seem like it had twists or surprises; it just felt like a jumble of unrelated stuff that got tacked together.

To me, the Shelburne thing is the distraction that the main plot is being sacrificed for. I want my ohana and banter and carguments and characterization back.

Oh, now you just want everything! (So do I.)
