the_other_sandy: Black and white TV (TV)
I swear all of my shows know about the other shows I watch.

Last Friday's Supernatural featured a guy in New Jersey listening to a nature sounds MP3 of the ocean, and all I could think about was Danny ranting about Hawaiian water torture. Tonight, Danny sent Steve off on his dangerous mission to North Korea by calling him "jerk," and I immediately expected Steve to call him "bitch" in return because bitch/jerk is how Winchesters say 'I love you' on Supernatural.

Not a lot of Steve and Danny this week after two awesome bromance episodes in a row, but the scene in Steve's office with Danny being all concerned and Steve promising to think about Danny the whole time he was gone was adorable.

I was not at all surprised that Jenna was killed off in this episode, but even though I saw it coming a mile away, it was still a "holy crap!" moment when it happened. Wo Fat is really good at just up and killing people with no warning. I mean, it's not like he's going to telegraph it by changing his facial expression.

I suspect that Wo Fat getting away all the time is going to get kind of old. I know he was the Big Bad in the original version of H50 and didn't get arrested until the series finale, but Original Recipe Wo Fat (and somebody correct me if I'm wrong because I haven't seen that show since I was in elementary school) wasn't as much of a hands-on guy as Iron Chef Wo Fat. He had flunkies doing his dirty work so it was hard to connect him to things, unlike our Wo Fat who is doing illegal things in front of, and sometimes to, members of Five-0.

Chin proposing to Malia was a surprise. I know they were engaged before, but they've been through a lot and they just recently started dating again. From what the show has shown us so far, I didn't think they'd gotten past the lunch date stage. But whatever. I hope it works out for them and the show doesn't tragically kill off Malia as part of a character arc for Chin. Not that I don't want Chin to have a character arc; I just want him to have one that doesn't involve killing Malia.

I wish TPTB would make up their minds what they want to do with Lori. First, she was presented in a kind of antagonistic role as the governor's tattletale. That plot was almost immediately dropped and she became part of the team, but just a regular team member like all the other team members. But then they occasionally throw in weird stuff like tonight. Seriously, out of all the people in that group who are close to Steve, Lori scores the hug? And it wasn't even a friendly 'I'm glad you're okay' hug; you'd think it was her and Steve who were engaged, not the bucketload of other actual engaged people in the episode. It was just an odd level of intimacy for two people who have never even socialized outside of the team setting, unlike Steve going spearfishing with Chin or hiking with Danny. And it was all one-sided. If TPTB really do want Lori to be a love interest for Steve, maybe they should tell Steve that because he doesn't seem to have noticed yet.

Looking forward to discovering who, what, or where "Shelburn" is. Not to mention how to spell it. Anyone have their closed-captioning on?

When he said, "jerk" I too was expecting to hear a "bitch" back.

Later when Danny said, "Shut-up." I was sort of hoping they'd start making out. This based on the recent SNL episode.

Maybe they did and he wasn't paying attention and just heard the "ee" ending and just assumed they said Danny.

I should be so lucky. I'll just need to keep my slash goggles sparkling clean so I don't miss anything.

the whole "oh he got away again?! darn!" tactic can get old very fast.

Especially since he keeps doing illegal things like assassinating governors right in front of their faces. How often can he do something illegal in front of or to them before it becomes completely implausible that someone hasn't just shot him already?

That last scene kidna ruined the episode for me

It didn't ruin the ep for me, but it was a very "Wait, what?" moment because they just don't seem to know each other that well for her to be hugging him like that.

I agree that Lori as Five-0's babysitter would have had a lot of potential. I think I would like the character more in that role than as Kono's stand-in. Because apparently Kono is starring in her own spin-off show this season that occasionally crosses over with H50.

Quoted For Truth. Seriously.

Ditto at the Malia thing. I want this arc developed, not burned. >_>;

And in the TV the captions spell it "Shelburne". Not that we know what that is lol.

Thanks for the heads-up. I hate spelling things wrong.

According to my closed captioning it's "Shelburne." Of course, that doesn't necessarily mean it's the way the TPTB spell it. We'll see.

Lenkov (and others who supposedly are in the know) keep saying Lori is not a love interest for McGarrett. But then they throw that totally weird hug in and mess with our minds. I wish they'd do whatever they're planning for Lori and get it over with.

I loved this episode; it pulled my whumper strings, big time. I was disappointed that Kono didn't get to go play with the rescue team though. I miss her ass-kicking and her ability to discover all the dead bodies.

I can't wait for the fic tags to this episode.

And thanks for the spelling. It was driving me nuts because I could think of 3 or 4 different ways to spell it and I hate spelling things wrong.

Yes to all the Supernatural-esque stuff. I love my fandoms overlapping. =)

The Wo Fat escaping again didn't bother me. Its hardly the most unrealistic thing they've done here. ;)

And yeah...that hug. What the hell was that? Totally didn't fit and totally one sided. Steve didn't seem to react to her at all.

I think there have been a few references to Chin and Malia - going to see Kono and then Kono telling Chin she was okay with it and all. I thought that was such a sweet scene but I do hope they don't kill her off for the drama factor. Not right away, anyway.

All the stuff they've shown on screen with Chin and Malia has been very high school datey. I thought they were maybe at the point where Chin would let Malia wear his letter sweater, but getting engaged? That could have been set up a little better.

I finally had time to watch this episode so I could read your notes (and the umpteen codas). Wo Fat getting away all the time is definitely going to get old. I can understand the 5-0 team, and even Joe, dropping everything when Danny finds Steve. The SEALs that were with them, not so much.

Lori's hug threw me off, too. It didn't help that she didn't bother to change her expression for the occasion. Heck, she didn't even change expression when she got to fire the rocket, unless you count the concentration as she put it together. (I'm going to be kind to the writers and assume that the pilot talked her through that, or else the package has really good instructions.) If it were my first time using that sort of firepower, I'd be either "Oh, cool!" or "Eek, no!" rather than "Oh, that exploded nicely."

The SEAL team that went with them was the one that Five-0 saved back in episode 3 this season, and one of the guys was the SEAL Super!Steve saved in the midair skydiving rescue, so I can see them wanting to come. Plus, their commanding officer is a close friend of Joe's.

I know why they went along, and it's great that they were there. I just couldn't figure out how a team of SEALs didn't make sure that all of the trucks were cleared of possible enemy combatants before getting distracted by Steve. Yes, rescuing him was the mission objective. However, I would expect the hot military team to remember to make sure that no one is waiting to take everyone out while their backs are turned, even if their buddy has been found (relatively) safe.

Sorry, I can usually suspend my disbelief pretty well, and I freely admit that I don't watch this show for the plot. It's just that every so often the gaping holes are a little distracting.

I was little more concerned about them accidentally shooting Steve through the sides of the truck during the firefight. Thank goodness that canvas was bulletproof. ;-)
