I'm supposed to be decluttering my poor apartment by reading the bazillion print books I already own but haven't read yet, but I have fallen sufficiently in love with my Nook that I keep buying books for it and reading those instead. On the plus side, I actually am reading the books I've bought for my Nook, so I'm not just building up a new backlog there. I'm also reading more books now than I did last year when I was trying the 50 Books Challenge. But none of this reading is helping ease the clutter. I need to be reading the print books.

Word. I was given a Nook for Christmas and it has become my new best-friend. I had purchased a new book to read during the holidays, but - ta-dah! - it was one of the books that my nephew found for 'free' and loaded onto my new baby. When I moved at the beginning of the month that brand new, unopened book was among the ton of other paper books I donated to the library. I haven't worked up the courage to give away the 17 other books that have been waiting to be read, but I fear they will face the same fate. On the plus side, my bookcases are no longer sagging dangerously.

I've been living in fear that I'm going to wind up wasting my money by replacing my unread print books with e-books, but I've been saved from that fate so far because many (most?) of my unread print books aren't available as e-books...yet.

I did end up replacing a few of my unread Alex Delaware paperbacks with e-books because they were those new tall and skinny paperbacks that are supposed to be easier to read but just make my hands hurt. Plus, they don't fit on the mass market paperback sized shelves in the bookcase a friend built for me.

I dislike those tall, skinny books, too. Besides being awkward to hold they completely screw up bookshelf alignment. I haven't started to replace the un-read books yet, but I am working on my favorite series. I've got all the Dresden books, all the Harry Potter books, and now I'm working on the Eve Dallas series (a daunting prospect as it is so long). I don't even want to think about replacing all of my Anne McCaffrey collections, or Katherine Kurtz, or...

It's kinda like when I had to start replacing all of my video tapes with dvds. :/
