the_other_sandy: Movie tickets (Movies)
About two years ago, Bruce McDonald announced that he was working on three sequels to his 1996 film Hard Core Logo, which starred Callum Keith Rennie (as Billy Tallent) and Hugh Dillon (as Joe Dick), and was hugely popular in the Fraser/Kowalski subset of Due South fandom back in the day.

The first film was supposed to be about Joe and Bucky Haight (originally played by Julian Richings), the second was supposed to be about Joe and Billy, and the third was supposed to be about Joe and Billy's teenage daughters and their band. There were meetings and script readings with CKR and Hugh.

Two of those movies have now been filmed, but with massive changes. The Joe and Billy movie became Trigger starring Molly Parker and Tracy Wright instead. Callum Keith Rennie and Julian Richings have small roles in the movie, but not as Billy or Bucky. The Joe and Bucky movie has just been released as Hard Core Logo 2 and doesn't have Joe or Billy in it either, although it does star Julian Richings as Bucky and features the return of Bruce the documentary filmmaker.

The third movie is still in the idea stage, but since Joe and Billy weren't really supposed to be in it much in the first place, I'm not holding my breath that they'll have any scenes together. What a waste. CKR and Hugh Dillon had such amazing screen chemistry in Hard Core Logo. I can't believe they haven't worked together more. Maybe they can guest star on each other's TV shows or something.

FYI, my best friend just saw Trigger and she said it was fantastic. And this is coming from the biggest CKR fan in the word, lmao. She's also a big Hard Core Logo and Hugh Dillion fan, so I trust in her judgment of how much she loved it. :)

As much as I wanted the sequels you talked of, knowing at least what they gave us is good makes me happy.

I've heard nothing but good things about Trigger, which in an odd way makes it even worse. It could've been a good movie with Callum and Hugh in it too. I just think it's a shame they never get to work together when they play off each other so well. It's totally not fair of Bruce McD to dangle Hugh and Callum in front of me like that, only to pull the rug out from under me at the last minute.
