You know what's weird?

All last season when Sam and Dean were cracking apart, I really enjoyed the drama and couldn't wait to see them get back together again. Now that they're back together and working on rebuilding their relationship, I'm not enjoying it as much as I thought I would. Oh, I like it plenty, but my like is tempered by this feeling of impending doom as I wait for Kripke to yank the rug out from under me again.

I realize this isn't The Bobby Singer Show, but it's about time we got to see how Bobby was dealing with his paralysis. Clearly not well, but it's only natural to get depressed after a major life-changing event like that. I'm glad Dean got through to him; their heartfelt talk was very sweet. I still kept waiting for someone at some point to tell Bobby that he wasn't useless, because his brain still worked. He's probably forgotten more about demons than most hunters will ever know because he made a specialty of them. The Winchesters and some other hunters we've seen are generalists--they know a little bit about a lot of creatures. Other hunters like Gordon were specialists, but in something other than demons. With the apocalypse, which happens to involve demons, coming on, Bobby would be an invaluable resource for his knowledge alone.

Chad Everett made a great Dean. He nailed a lot of Jensen's Dean mannerisms, and Bobby and Dean were hilarious as grumpy old men.

Is this the first time we've seen Sam play poker? Awesome. He did really well, but then he had Bobby's and Dean's experience to forewarn him. There was certainly some luck involved too, because all the bluffing in the world wouldn't have amounted to anything if Sam hadn't had a winning hand at the end, but the bluff Sam set up in the middle of the game to make Patrick fold when Sam had a crap hand was brilliant. I've missed Sam's smarty brains.

Also, Sam was finally able to save Dean! Not just from the kind of danger they face every day, which he's done before, but literally pulling Dean back from the brink of death. That's got to be a monkey off his back. Hopefully, Sam will be able to forgive himself for not being able to save Dean from his deal now. Patrick really nailed it when he said, "When it's about your brother, you get so emotional your brain flies out the window." I've never heard a better encapsulation of season 4.

No spoilers, but I have to say that next week's episode looks like it could either be really good, or really epically bad.
