the_other_sandy: Black and white TV (TV)
I believe the show needs shorter episode titles. ;-)

This episode turned out very different than I thought it would. I was expecting Jesse to be more like Todd ("Kneel before Todd!") in "Wishful Thinking." After all, that's a lot of power for someone that young to wield. Who wouldn't be tempted to use it to avoid doing their homework or eating their vegetables at that age? But Jesse turned out to be more like a mini Winchester. He was very mature for his age, and basically just a regular kid dragged into the supernatural world through circumstances beyond his control. No wonder Sam empathized with him so much. But if Jesse is the Antichrist instead of Sam, does that mean I have to give up my two Antichrist!Sam icons? I love my Antichrist!Sam icons!

It was nice to see that there's still a little bit of the pre-demon blood Sam left. He was terrific with Jesse, explaining his options and giving him choices. Of course, it could all come back to bite them in the butt later, but I come down on the free will end of the destiny vs. free will debate, so I think Jesse should definitely have been given a choice and shouldn't have been killed because of what he might become. Too bad they don't know where he went though. If anyone can teach Jesse valuable life lessons about making bad choices with good intentions, it's Sam.

I also loved the "Hit it, Mister Wizard" line. I miss Sam's sense of humor.

The babysitter at the beginning of the episode was watching Cujo on TV. That remains one of only two movies I've ever walked out on in the theater. Bad movie. No cookie.

I got a kick out of Sam's expression when Castiel said Jesse was the AntiChrist. "Wait. I'm not the AntiChrist? Don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled, but I've spent the past three years thinking I was supposed to be the AntiChrist. You're sure?"

It was really nice to see Sam connect with a kid for once. Granted, it's definitely not his forte, but this was a kid he could really identify with.

Yeah, Dean usually does better with the kids, but Sam's always been better with the sincere "look, I'm going to tell you the truth now" speeches. And Jesse was more mature than the average 9-year-old.

Me too! Damn straight! Glad to see show is too, like they said they would.

I know right?! When they were talking about how they were raised, I was thinking that Sam would be like his surrogate Dad, give Jesse the life Sam always wished for. Oh well.

I wish Jesse had stayed around and maybe gone to Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters Bobby's to learn more about his powers and the apocalypse and whatnot. It's too late to give him the life Sam wished he had, but they could make the transition easier for Jesse than it was for Sam. John seemed to almost punish Sam for finding out about hunting by throwing him whole hog into training immediately.

My thoughts exactly, especially about John- that bastard.

I'm pretty sure I know where Jesse went. When he lays down on his bed, on the wall above the headboard is a giant display about Australia. Remember how he sat up and just looked at it? I think he went there to get away and to protect his family.

I'm sure he did. But the Winchesters don't know that.
