Maybe I'm missing something.

If Jervis handed the plague survivors over to the Wraith, wouldn't that mean the Wraith would then know who was safe to eat? I'm guessing Jervis wasn't thinking his plan through.

Also?

Dropping a mine on a buttload of Wraith = good.

Dropping a mine on a bunch of humans whose only crime was to be short-sighted and inconvenient = bad.

The writers really seem to have hit a wall this season, which gives me no hope that SGU is going to be any good, because the same writers who ran out of ideas on SG-1 and SGA are going to be writing it. I think it's long past time (and at the same time, too late) for an infusion of fresh blood on the writing staff.

I don't know if I'm just getting hyper-critical because I'm upset about the looming end of the series or if these last couple of episodes have really sucked as massively as I'm thinking they did.

Yes, Jervis does seem like a pretty dim bulb. Unfortunately he was also a selfish bastard - which meant he had to die, one way or another. I'm semi-ok with him and his merry band of vigilantes being used to lure the Wraith in and them all being blown up - it's the whole sacrificing the few for the safety of the many thing. I'm kind of wishy-washy on Sheppard having the Head Guy (whose name I have forgotten) doing the double-cross. That's even more morally ambiguous than what he did in Miller's Crossing (talking Wallace into being a Wraith snack).

But this was the best plan Sheppard could come up with? What if McKay and Beckett hadn't managed to escape? Waiting for Atlantis to call in and then send a jumper would have alerted the Wraith and blown that plan. Holes, holes, holes... Or just lazy writers. grrr....

I've been wondering the same thing about myself, but then I remember that I didn't like last season much either. I haven't really squeed hard at an episode since season 3.

But this was the best plan Sheppard could come up with?

Yeah, his whole plan for the episode seemed to be to give him a minute while he came up with a plan. I miss Sheppard using his smarty brains. Meanwhile, Rodney's dialogue for the episode consisted of, "That's impossible! I'll only need a few minutes to do it!"

Holes, holes, holes... Or just lazy writers. grrr....

The same people have been writing in the same universe for ten seasons now. I've been wanting some new faces in the writers' room for awhile, preferably at least one who isn't a fanboy and one who is a woman.

Heh,the whole sacrificing the few for the many is exactly what Jervis was trying to do. So lots of irony right there. I actually liked the mid season two parter episodes, even though parts of it was lame and or stupid. But I absolutely was bored with this cliche ridden episode. I knew from the preview it'd be stupid. The parts I did like were between Rodney and Carson on the hive ship, it was more of a comedy than action, so it worked for me.

One of the unintended consequences of the SCB campaign for me was that I can no longer see Carson Beckett through Paul McGillion. The character of Carson is now just PM at his day job to me. With less than half a season to go, I'd rather see more of McKay and Sheppard, and Ronon and Sheppard (preferably while running and shooting, 'cause I'm shallow like that).

Next week's episode worries me because in the hands of any other show, it could be a brilliant exploration of a series of moral and ethical dilemmas (like "The Measure of a Man" on ST:TNG), but in the hands of our writers? I don't think they're willing or able to take the hard road like they'd need to. Where's Melinda Snodgrass when you need her?

Yes but will it really be about morals and consequences, or is it a clip show in disguise?

You know, I think I'd prefer a clip show to superficial lip service and handwaving regarding the moral and ethical choices made by the Lantians given in a trial setting for an hour. At least with a clip show, I'd get a chance to watch bits from episodes I liked (or at least, bits I liked from episodes I didn't).

Sheppard/Head Guy did it to save as many as possible. Jervis did it to make sure he himself was saved, anybody else surviving was incidental. Big, big difference. But still ironic.

I liked the parts with McKay and Beckett, too. Although the scene where Beckett killed the Wraith was just too overly dramatic and so unlike Beckett. This Beckett was angry and vindictive, the old Beckett would have been reluctant and sad to have to kill someone - even a Wraith.

regrettably, i saw jervis and his pals as collateral damage. they chose their fate and walked right into it. they were ready to basically commit murder themselves by turning over the plague survivors. i don't envy sheppard his choice, or the village leader, who will no doubt have many sleepless nights for his part in the scheme.

alas, i've been begging for new writing staff since season 4 of stargate sg-1. alas, we had a good one in, um, oh, who wrote the episode where shep got sucked dry by todd (my mind is swiss cheese today) but when sg1 got cancelled, those writers moved over and booted out the new blood. too bad :(

however, i did enjoy the beckett-mckay bonding :)

I thought SG-1 did okay until the middle of season 6. When it came back from the mid-season break, it was just a steady downhill until they finally shot it and put it out of its misery.

Ken Cuperus wrote "Common Ground," plus two other episodes, and that's it. Figures. We wouldn't want to have anyone on staff who writes good episodes about Sheppard.

I just find myself really resenting any screen time going to anyone who isn't on Sheppard's team right now. With only half a season left until it's all over, I want to see the characters I originally became a fan of the show for, and I want to see them all on a mission together, not split up all over the place. I especially resent that Keller is getting more showcase episodes this season than Sheppard has gotten in five years. I call BS.

Yeah I want *Team* episodes, and definitely better be a team movie! although if Mallozzi is writing it.... well, there's fanfic, thank god.
