I hardly know where to start; this was such a busy ep.
I think I've finally gotten a concussion from being beaten over the head with Degree deodorant ads and product placement. I almost wish I were male just so I could boycott it. This time, it even played a crucial part in the main story when Zane and Carter used its secret ingredient to withstand the high temperatures of a mini-sun so they could get close enough to destroy it. You know, just in case the two commercials per break weren't enough to make me notice the stuff.
The mini-sun plot was a lot of fun, but it was probably the least important in terms of ongoing storylines. It did prompt a step forward in the relationship between Zane and Jo, at least on Jo's side. It wasn't clear how Zane felt about the change in Jo's feelings for him. Watching Zoe on the bus worrying about whether her dad was going to be able to destroy the mini-sun before it destroyed Eureka really made me think about how much more dangerous this season has been for Sheriff Carter. He seems to have been putting his life on the line a lot more this season. It must be really hard on his daughter to watch that.
The Eureka mayoral race was both timely and uniquely Eureka. With all the hi-tech everything everywhere, it tickled me no end that the town still uses paper ballots because it's too easy for a town full of geniuses to tamper with voting technology. I also had my fingers crossed that Henry would be elected mayor even though he wasn't on the ballot, and he won as a write-in candidate. I think he'll be an awesome mayor. Besides, he does everything else in town.
I knew Eva was interested in all the old records pertaining to whatever was going on in Eureka before the town was founded. She'd been gathering old records and watching archival footage, so it didn't surprise me at all that she snatched the old photos from Café Diem. However, with all the layoffs and shutdowns going on since she arrived, it totally blew past me that she'd want the town museum shut down just so she could have exclusive access to those records. Why do I think that one of the three bodies found in the old facility was a relative of Eva's? Unless there's another weird time thing going on, she isn't old enough for it to be a husband. Father, maybe? Guess we'll find out next week.
Oh, and it's been so long that I almost forgot:
SGA sighting -- Dean Marshall (Sgt. Bates) as candidate/cloud scientist Paulo Herrera.
