This episode had the potential to be really cool and suspenseful, but I just wasn't feeling it, despite the heroic efforts of the incidental music. I blame the direction.
This episode hinged heavily on Teyla's frantic efforts to find her missing people, including the father of her child. She believed they were in terrible and imminent danger, and she was obviously desperate to find out what happened to them, but I wasn't feeling it. In part, I think it was the direction. Everybody's body language was just too laid back. It would've helped if they'd been more tense, or were walking or talking faster to convey a sense of urgency. Another part of it is that we just don't know the Athosians anymore. We heard Teyla mention several people tonight when she was going through the wares at the stall, but we've never met any of them. If she were searching for Halling or Jinto or Wex, I might've felt something, but not these people who are so important to Teyla that...we've never actually heard of them before. I also think it was a mistake not to introduce us to Kanaan before he disappeared. He's supposed to be the great love of Teyla's life, but the only times we've seen him have been when Michael impersonated him in a vision and when the minion version of him showed up at Teyla's cell, so I'm not feeling the love between them at all. The show should've established their relationship so that we could feel Teyla's pain along with her.
The battle at the end was kind of fun (I never get tired of Sheppard and Ronon running and shooting), and Ronon's over the shoulder blind shot was easily the coolest thing in the entire episode. Which is unfortunate, because with two Wraith screwing with Atlantis and Teyla and her baby directly in peril, I would've liked to be on tenterhooks waiting to see what happens next week, instead.
