I got the feeling from his scenes with her that's he's always trying very hard not to steamroll over her, and that would be so tiring for anyone. He needs someone he can be himself with that he thinks could survive it. *g* He definitely has flaws but a lot of his personality actually is well-suited for the job he does.
Hilariously, I knew the breakup was impending at his reaction over her not having a computer in the room.
