Title: Ion Arc
Author:
Sunhawk16
Fandom: Gundam Wing
Category: M/M
Pairings: 1x2, 3x4
REC
This series is kind of a mixed bag because the author started writing it in her teens and improved markedly over the course of many years. The first one in particular has that aura of "nobody likes me, everybody hates me, I'm gonna eat some worms" that I remember from my own teenage years. But as the series went on, not only did it contain some really good Gundam Wing stories, but just really good science fiction stories in general.
She did an especially good job of giving people who lived on Earth, people who lived on space stations, and people who lived and worked in space distinctly different cultures. I also liked how she portrayed the Gundam pilots in peacetime as young guys establishing themselves in their lives and professions, but then something would happen and suddenly you'd be reminded that they were in fact war veterans. Basically this whole series ruined me for all other Gundam Wing fic because I never liked anyone else's stories and characterizations as much as this.
While I really like this series as a whole, the fics I tend to re-read the most are Obligations; Situations, or, Duo Maxwell's Awful, Bad Day; and Traditions.
TEASER
I don't know what made me glance to the right when I walked out that door. I really don't. Later, I would not be able to say if I heard something or just what it was that made my eyes flick in that direction. What I saw made my blood turn to ice and I was running hard that way even as my brain engaged and I was yelling, "Relena! Don't touch that!"
I saw her glance over her shoulder, the look on her face hardened and I knew in an instant that she thought I was just being pissy. She turned back to the controls to the cargo bay and reached defiantly for the button to open the door, punching at it savagely. I got to her just two seconds too damn late. All I could do was grab hold of her and hold on for dear life.
I don't pressurize the cargo bay if I'm not carrying cargo.
