This is a modern AU series in which Lan Wangji is a Cultivation Agent and Wei Wuxian is a Cultivation Technician with the Gusu Bureau of Cultivation. I wish there'd been more emphasis on solving a mystery because I am a mystery fan, but the actual (very enjoyable) first story mostly involves Lan Wangji wondering why the heck he's having Feelings for the chaos gremlin that is their new evidence tech. I also like stories in which Lan Qiren isn't a complete jerk, just a teacher (and manager) with very high standards because he wants his students to reach their potential and his employees to be safe. His scenes with A-Yuan were adorable.
The other two stories are about Wei Wuxian working on his university degree, and Lan Xichen wrestling with family and duty and personal happiness and what happens when those three things don't necessarily align.
This is one of those series I feel compelled to revisit every time I see it recced 'just to re-read my favorite scenes' and then end up finishing the whole thing at 2:00 am.

"It is very nice to meet you," Lan Wangji said solemnly, determined not to be enchanted when the boy bowed to him as well. "I did not realize you had a child, CT Wei."
"Why does he call you CT Wei?" A-Yuan asked curiously.
"Because he doesn't know my name," CT Wei replied.
Lan Wangji blinked. "I do."
"Then you should use it, Lan Zhan."
Trapped in a net of his own weave, Lan Zhan leveled an unimpressed look CT...Wei Ying's way, and received a sunny smile in return. Surely smiling so much was bad for a person's health?
