They certainly were. But I'm sure if they keep looking, they'll find my show and my characters somewhere.

Was everybody on hiatus for so long that they forgot how to make the show? Joe certainly acted like he'd either forgotten how to play Sheppard, or he'd have rather been somewhere else, preferably golfing. Some of his crisis scenes in the tower reminded me of Mulder doing his "panicked face" in Fight the Future.

My characters were nowhere to be seen. Sheppard was being uncharacteristically dim. McKay was only there to spout technobabble for an hour. Teyla only had a handful of lines that involved stating the blindingly obvious in a concerned manner. Keller, who seemed so competent and in control during the triage scene in the season finale, flailed her way through the emergency treatment bits. She lost serious points with me every time she said something like, "We're losing her," and turned around to look soulfully at Elizabeth. Yes, doctor, you are losing her. Who exactly are you waiting for to do something about it? You're her doctor. Keller also tried to outsmug Rodney once; it wasn't a good look on her.

The entire ep was scene after scene of infodump, occasionally punctuated by short bursts of implausible action. I refuse to believe that a handful of inexperienced pilots (some of whom had only been in a jumper twice and had only fired drones in simulations) could go out into an asteroid belt and shoot a path through it without a single casualty. I also laughed really hard when Sheppard threw Zelenka so that their tethered together selves managed to cross the huge gap in the destroyed part of the city, especially when Zelenka capped it off by saying, "That was unbelievable!" Yes. Yes, it was.

There were some pluses:

We finally got a "John" out of Rodney. It only took until the fourth season for him to call one of his best friends by his first name. I wonder if it'll happen again?

"You're just going to have to trust me, doc--about as far as I can throw you, actually." Hee.

Ronon's scene with Weir was cute.

I hope the season gets better from here. I know they're capable of it. ::points at season 3::
