Wow, that was...pointless.
You know you're in trouble when the pilot opens with an extended infodump of the show's premise. Seriously, the main character just sat there and monologued everything you need to know about the show to the Intrepid Girl Reporterâ„¢.
The showrunners made some serious tactical errors with the basic set-up of the whole show. For one thing, they gave the vampire character (Mick) all the benefits of being undead (strength, speed, and enhanced senses), but none of the weaknesses (garlic, holy water, and crucifixes don't affect him; he can even go out in daylight for limited amounts of time, but not so limited as to be an inconvenience to the scriptwriters). Mick is also presented as too moral to drink blood from a live human, but then they show him shooting up blood (given to him by a friend at the morgue, the requisite 'good guy vampire show' cliché) from a syringe and then acting like he'd just done heroin or something (which I found unbelievably offensive).
The acting was atrocious and not helped along by awkward dialogue, and all the female characters (except one African American and the vampire cult goth girls) were very similar looking blondes.
The whole show just reeked of a lack of imagination. A pundit at TVGuide.com picked this show to be the first cancellation of the season. I wouldn't be surprised (or sorry).
