the_other_sandy: Compass pointing north (Travel)
I did not actually manage to drag my butt out of bed in time for the first panel I wanted to go to this morning, so my day started with the Donald Strachey room party. We watched "Ice Blues" and attempted to pimp people into the fandom (Donald and Timmy are just so darned cute together).

Then I spent some time in the art room filling out the ballot. The room was only about half full of submissions this year, which made some categories very hard to vote for. There wasn't a single piece of art based on The Professionals or The Man from UNCLE for the first time since I've been coming here.

Also for the first time since I've been coming here, I finally made it to the Stitch and Bitch panel! I've been trying to go to it forever, but something has always come up at the last minute. I didn't make a whole lot of progress on my cross stitch project because I am the slowest stitcher ever, but it was nice to have a chance to work on the piece. I don't think I've touched it in six years.

That was followed by a Pros panel that was just a basic overview of where to find Pros fandom on the Internet. Since I'm fairly new to the fandom, I need all the help I can get.

After that was an ice cream social in the party suite. You had to pay extra if you wanted to attend, but it was catered by the hotel. It was basically a sundae bar, with vanilla ice cream and something like eight toppings to choose from. I went with nuts, chocolate sauce, caramel sauce, and whipped cream.

On my way down to my last panel of the day, I ran into a group of women who said they could hear tornado sirens out their window. We headed downstairs and all the TVs in the public areas were showing a tornado warning. Unfortunately, I had no idea what county Lansing is in or where the towns in the warning area were in relation to Lansing. Everyone attending the panel I was at ultimately decided to go ahead with it since our meeting room had no windows and we didn't really have anywhere better to go. The hotel wouldn't let anyone go back upstairs to the rooms because of all the windows up there. It was super dark and windy outside, and the lights in our panel room were flickering enough that I got my mini flashlight out of my purse just in case. The power stayed on and the whole thing blew over in about twenty minutes. I was extremely happy there was no hail since I've only had my car since May 9th.

As for the actual panel, it was a Hawaii Five-0 panel on Steve and Danny's bromance that branched out to cover the relationships between all the characters. I finally had a chance to get my H50 squee on!

I didn't think I was going to have anything to do this evening until I saw the RiffTrax sign on the con suite. We wound up watching the RiffTrax version of Birdemic: Shock and Terror, which may just be the worst movie in human history. For those unfamiliar with it, the trailer is here. No, those are not placeholder special effects; the finished film actually looks like that. In fact, I think the special effects in the trailer are better than those in the finished film. The RiffTrax commentary was hilarious. I still have lemonade in my sinuses.

And that about wraps it up for this year. There's still half a day tomorrow, but I don't plan to go to any panels, so unless something spectacular happens, I won't have anything more exciting to write about than my long drive home, which I will spare you.
