Badass!Sam may be my favorite flavor of Sam, but Puppy!Sam seems to be Dean's. He was so happy to see Sam making earnest faces at the civilians to get them to open up. I wonder if Dean's wish to have Sammy back had any impact on how Sam actually came back, because he hadn't been Puppy!Sam for years before he fell in the pit. He may have forgotten the past year, but he should still remember the demon blood-drinking/apocalypse years. But yay for continuity in Bobby not having gotten over Sam's attack on him.
Even though Sam seems to have regressed to his season one self, he seems to be a more grown-up version. He didn't get pissed at Dean and Bobby for keeping secrets from him because he understood why they did, and he didn't accept the free pass he was being offered for the events of the past year, choosing instead to take full responsibility for what he'd done, even though he can't remember any of it yet.
I'm going to miss Badass!Sam, but it was so nice to see the boys smiling for a change, not to mention the Doublemint Twins moments and banter that didn't have pointed, hurtful subtext. And Castiel came when Sam called! And almost hugged him! I remember the days when I didn't need antidepressants after every episode. It felt a lot like this. Boys, I've missed you and your amazing chemistry so much.
It looks like Crowley isn't the only one who's interested in purgatory. My question is, why is everyone suddenly interested now? All the monsters seemed to leave it alone for eons, but now it's the hot real estate. There had better not be a monster apocalypse coming after the heaven/hell one. I'm kind of over apocalypses at the moment.
