Fannish Fifty 2023: Rec #6

All of the stories I'm reccing for Fannish Fifty are favorites to one degree or another, but I've re-read this one a lot. It's basically an AU in that Wei Wuxian, Jiang Cheng, Lan Wangji, and Jin Zixuan stay together after the cave battle and proceed to make epic pests of themselves behind enemy lines during the ensuing war, over the course of which they accidentally develop a four-way soul bond (although only Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji are romantically involved--the other bonds are platonic). As a result they (and we) all get to see behind each character's mask (Wei Wuxian's smile, Jiang Cheng's temper, Lan Wangji's expressionlessness, and Jin Zixuan's reserve).
It contains some of my favorite things, namely BAMFy characters being BAMFy, whumping, Wangxian being ridiculously soft for each other, and found family feels out the wazoo. There is a sequel--Harmony--which I also enjoy and have read multiple times, but if I'm doing a comfort re-read, it's going to be Song.
TEASER
The soldiers who caught him are far enough out of their depth that they don't even know it. They torture him, a little, but grow nervous when he politely explains that they have only ensured that their own deaths will be slow. "You were never going to live after taking me," he tells them reasonably, "but we might have killed you quickly. I'm not going to get petty about a few broken fingers, but, well. I'm not really the one you need to worry about."
He can feel the others approaching rapidly, their collective fury a comet hurtling towards the outpost.
