I remember watching the pilot of Tru Calling when it first came on because I liked Eliza Dushku on Buffy and because Callum Keith Rennie was a guest star. I didn't like the show then. This ep didn't make me feel like I'd been missing anything, although to be fair, it was only episode 3.
I don't know what it is about the characters on this show, but I couldn't stand any of them. I especially didn't like how Tru kept bailing her brother out of every stupid scrape he got himself into through sheer lack of judgment (Harrison is the one born every minute), thus guaranteeing there were no consequences for his actions and giving him no motivation to change his life. It's probably a character failing of mine, but I have a hard time dredging up sympathy for people who make their own problems. Too many bad things happen to people who aren't asking for it.
But enough of that. Let's move on to the real reason I watched Tru Calling tonight: Joe Flanigan. I'm glad his character didn't turn out to be as big a jerkwad as it looked like he was going to be. I was amused by the Sheppardesque all black outfit he was wearing when Tru first met him (alive, anyway). I just can't figure out how Sheppard can wear an untucked button-down shirt over a T-shirt and look like a slob, but Andrew Webb can wear basically the same outfit and look fantastic. Same outfit, same actor... ?? And Joe's hair maintained a life of its own, even when his character was dead.
Watching this show just made me miss the Eliza Dushku of Buffy. I'd really like to see her kick some butt on Supernatural at some point.
