This was the long day. It's the only day of the con that literally has programming all day long. We started at 9:00 a.m. with a general discussion of where season 5 could go in regard to Sam, Dean, the brotherly relationship, the angels, and the demons. There were some really interesting ideas that built on what we already know. This con is very considerate about spoilers, so the spoilers were held until the very end and the spoiler-free people simply left the room and went on a potty or snack break.

The next panel was actually a presentation of "classic rock done right." It started with real, untouched clips from the show, like "Bad Moon Rising" by Creedence Clearwater Revival when the Impala gets hit by the semi, "Back In Black" by AC/DC when the Impala hits the road for the first time after being repaired, "Renegade" by Styx when Sam and Dean are escaping from the bank in "Nightshifter," and of course "Carry On Wayward Son" by Kansas during many of the then/now segments. This was followed by fan-made vids where several con-goers had redone scenes from later seasons to add in classic rock where there wasn't any (darn budget cuts). Some of it was done for humor (like Castiel making his big "I'm an angel of the Lord" entrance to "Macho Man" by The Village People), but some of it was done straight. My favorites were the climactic battle at the end of "Jus in Bello" done to "Blue Collar Man" by Styx and the scene where the broken mom tries to drown her changeling daughter in "The Kids Are Alright" done to "Down by the Water" by PJ Harvey. I had actually requested the PJ Harvey scene when [livejournal.com profile] gonturan was asking for suggestions on [livejournal.com profile] winchestmidwest, so I was thrilled to see it in the collection. [livejournal.com profile] gonturan did a great job with it too, and she was nice enough to give me a copy on my flash drive.

The final panel before lunch was on fic writing that included writing tips and resources for fact-checking. I don't write fic, so I, er, read some on my laptop during the panel. ::is bad fangirl::

After lunch we did a group comparison between the pilot script and what ended up on screen. People were assigned parts and we read out each scene before watching it. You know what we learned most? That Jared and Jensen are way better actors than we are. ;-)

That was followed by a long presentation by two members of a local paranormal investigation group called Spirit Investigation Services. They went over how they prep for an investigation, how they conduct one, what tools they use, and so on. Then they played some EVP they recorded. They always lose me with the EVP. What to them sounded like a person saying, "Hi, it's David," sounded like a parakeet to me, but whatever.

Then we had a panel discussion on the hero's journey and how it's played out over the course of four seasons on the show that kind of got cut short because the paranormal investigators went way over their allotted time (by about an hour, not that anyone was complaining) and put the con way behind schedule.

After that, [livejournal.com profile] anteka presented a con debut episode of Plastic!Winchester Theater. I was especially fond of the part where Uriel told Castiel that he wouldn't break a seal if he changed his clothes periodically.

After dinner, we turned out the lights and took turns telling stories of various encounters we've had with the supernatural. One of the women is a teacher and talked about a little boy who haunted a middle school where she used to teach. It turned out to be a middle school I went to many years ago, but I don't remember hearing about it being haunted then.

Then we split up. Most of the group went downtown to take a ghost tour, while the other 5 or so of us stayed behind to watch movies. Tonight's double feature included Jared in the psychological thriller Cry_Wolf (and I use "thriller" in the broadest possible sense) and Eric Kripke's screenwriting job before Supernatural, Boogeyman. Once again, it rapidly degenerated into group MST3K. OMG, Boogeyman was hilarious, and not in an intentional way. Aside from being a ridiculous movie, there were just so many things in it that ended up in Supernatural: the main character's mom was named Mary; his blonde girlfriend was named Jessica; he drove a classic Mustang, which was Kripke's first idea for Dean's car; flickering lights; crow imagery; creepy children; a woman attacked by sludgy water in her bathtub; etc. By the time the Mustang was nearly creamed by a semi, we were just about peeing ourselves we were laughing so hard and the movie had barely started. By the time it was over, my face hurt from laughing so much. Mocking Boogeyman with a group of fangirls may have just been the high point of the con for me, it was so much fun.

We finished up very late, so I should have just about enough time for 5 hours of sleep before I have to head back for the last day, which will mercifully end mid-afternoon. I predict a nap after I get home.
