I liked the second half a lot more than the first half.

The first half contained a lot of unexplained technobabble delivered at breakneck speed. Yeah, Rodney McKay used to do the same thing, but Rodney would always have to stop and explain for the slow kids in the class. I got the feeling that all the unexplained technobabble was supposed to make the audience feel Pete and Myka's confusion over their new assignment, but since my job wasn't involved like theirs was, all it did was bore me. Once Pete and Myka went out to investigate an actual case in the second half, things picked up considerably.

The premise of the show is enough to hold me so far, which is fortunate because the characters haven't really grabbed me yet. I like Saul Rubinek as Artie, the warehouse's caretaker, but then I usually like Saul Rubinek in whatever he does. Pete was a little too flaky with his "vibes." And those "vibes" have the potential to turn into a crutch for lazy writers. (Can't come up with a scripted reason for Pete or Myka to be suspicious of something? Give Pete a vibe.) Myka was incredibly annoying until the end when she finally pulled the stick out of her ass, but then she kept pushing one of my major buttons. I hate supposedly successful, professional women who go whining to their bosses when they don't like their assignment and demand a new one. Sweetie, you work for the Secret Service, the Secret Service does not work for you. Your approval of your job assignments is not required. That said, I also wasn't impressed with the acting of either Eddie McClintock or Joanne Kelly, but it's still early days. They may need a couple of episodes to get comfortable with their characters and each other.

I did love all the steampunk tech. I haven't loved gadgets this much since Max Headroom. I also liked the investigation part of the episode, and the show has some cute whimsical touches. There was a magical wish-granting object in the warehouse that would grant the wishes of whoever was holding it. Impossible wishes manifested as ferrets. No one knows why. (Myka kept her ferret.)

Anyway, this show has a lot of potential so I'm going to stick with it and give it a chance, but I won't be very upset if I miss an episode.
