SGA Ep: Tracker

Bored now.

It didn't help that I just finished watching the awesome season premiere of Supernatural before this. Supernatural seemed to cram two episodes' worth of plot into its hour, while SGA tried to stretch twenty minutes worth of story to fill its hour. In summary:

  • Keller gets kidnapped

  • Ronon recaps what we've already seen happen to Keller while reading tracking signs

  • Rodney talks a lot

Interspersed throughout, Rodney and Ronon have a pissing contest over Keller's affections. Did I miss anything? Didn't think so.

Keller is whatever the plot needs her to be. Need a damsel in distress for "Missing?" Check. Need her to kick ass in "Tracker?" Check (apparently a couple of lessons is all it takes to make her a better fighter than Teyla, who's been training all her life). Need some romance on the show? Check and check again as not one, but two characters compete for her affections even though the show has done nothing to show us why two men would be competing for her.

Ugh. The highlight of the show for me was Joe Flanigan interacting with the little girl at the end. They say the hardest co-stars to work with in acting are kids and dogs, but Joe has always had fantastic chemistry with the kids on SGA.

This episode is exactly what I was afraid was going to happen when I heard that Keller was going to be the center of a love triangle.

Okay what annoyed me about the episode was that it was a rehashing of two of their previous plots. Runner needs tracking device stopped. And kidnapping a woman to save a dear child. We already had that with Ronon and then with Jeannie, seriously nothing new. The other thing that bugged me was that ooooo new technology, and there it goes through a gate never to be seen again. So stupid.

But yay, Daniel next week. And explosions. So it might be good, puts on optimistic face.

Aside from the been there/done that aspect, what bothered me was that they handed Rodney the teleportation device to play with, but no one warned him that it fused to the user. I was having visions of Rodney poking around in it, then strapping it on to see if he'd fixed it.

I'd like to be optimistic, but I'm apparently the only person in all of Stargate fandom who doesn't like Daniel. I'm going to have to place my faith in Action!Shep and explosions.

Two things I liked about this episode: 1) Keller didn't whine for once (although the flip in character reaction was rather suspicious, as you pointed out) and; 2) McKay is just so darned cute when he's smitten.

And I don't like Daniel 80% of the time, mostly when he opens his mouth. I think he's darned fine eye candy, though. But RDA is so much sexier.

I loved the little smile on Ronon's face at the end. He looked like he thought Rodney was cute when smitten, too.

I love season 1-6 Jack, before he became too cartoonish. Really, season 2 Jack is my favorite flavor of Jack. Daniel doesn't have the common sense that God gave linoleum.

Yeah, after season 6 he pretty much "called it in." Although he did still have a few moments of the Old Jack in later seasons: Moebius and It's Good to be King come to mind.

Daniel doesn't have the common sense that God gave linoleum.

Exactly. He got a little tougher in later years but still managed to be totally impractical.

Have you seen Continuum? The alternate timeline Jack who was still in special ops was the most I've liked Jack since the beginning of season 7.

Oh, yeah. I've always loved O'Neill when his black-ops background broke free, showing what the thin layer of laid-back goof was hiding. I could never understand the fans who always seemed to think that The Dolt was really O'Neill. But then they are usually rabid Daniel enthusiasts.

Yeah, I love Action!Jack. I miss him so much. You're making me feel like pulling out my season 2 DVDs again.

I know what you mean. I recently indulged in the super-dooper all-10-seasons-in-one-box-edition of the dvds (amazon had a 60% off sale - who could resist?). I've have had to force myself to watch each and every one (to make sure the discs are good) and not just skip to my favorite O'Neill episodes.

The few things I liked were Rodney moments. Even as I cringed a bit, the thought of him having been an Eager Beaver scout is also funny. I also appreciated the episode showing him defending himself effectively more than once, one time while hopping on one foot.

Ronon and Rodney have an interesting partnership at times, and I would hate to see that destroyed over a trumped up mutual romantic interest in Keller.

Actually, there was one more thing I appreciated, the declaration at the end that instead of fighting each other over her with her as a prize, it should be up to her. Hopefully it means they'll be showing the best of themselves instead of sabotaging one another.

Damn, but I hate Keller.

Rodney was really annoying me, but it wasn't his fault. Ronon is so laconic that the writers had Rodney babbling to fill the silence, since all that walking through the woods wasn't enough to hold anyone's attention on its own.

I agree with you that I'd hate to see Rodney and Ronon at odds over Keller. I loved that it was Rodney, the guy with minimal social skills, who decided that Keller needed to choose who she dated.

Judging by Ronon's smile at the end, I think he may not be serious about pursuing Keller romantically but just liked yanking Rodney's chain.

I didn't blame him for talking so much. Even aside from the meta issue of the writers wanting to fill time during the endless forest walk, Ronon's silences aren't exactly the comfortable kind, especially not for someone like Rodney.

I hope that's right, but I wouldn't put it past the writers to turn this isn't an annoying triangle.
