SGA Ep: Tracker

Bored now.

It didn't help that I just finished watching the awesome season premiere of Supernatural before this. Supernatural seemed to cram two episodes' worth of plot into its hour, while SGA tried to stretch twenty minutes worth of story to fill its hour. In summary:

  • Keller gets kidnapped

  • Ronon recaps what we've already seen happen to Keller while reading tracking signs

  • Rodney talks a lot

Interspersed throughout, Rodney and Ronon have a pissing contest over Keller's affections. Did I miss anything? Didn't think so.

Keller is whatever the plot needs her to be. Need a damsel in distress for "Missing?" Check. Need her to kick ass in "Tracker?" Check (apparently a couple of lessons is all it takes to make her a better fighter than Teyla, who's been training all her life). Need some romance on the show? Check and check again as not one, but two characters compete for her affections even though the show has done nothing to show us why two men would be competing for her.

Ugh. The highlight of the show for me was Joe Flanigan interacting with the little girl at the end. They say the hardest co-stars to work with in acting are kids and dogs, but Joe has always had fantastic chemistry with the kids on SGA.

This episode is exactly what I was afraid was going to happen when I heard that Keller was going to be the center of a love triangle.

Okay what annoyed me about the episode was that it was a rehashing of two of their previous plots. Runner needs tracking device stopped. And kidnapping a woman to save a dear child. We already had that with Ronon and then with Jeannie, seriously nothing new. The other thing that bugged me was that ooooo new technology, and there it goes through a gate never to be seen again. So stupid.

But yay, Daniel next week. And explosions. So it might be good, puts on optimistic face.

Two things I liked about this episode: 1) Keller didn't whine for once (although the flip in character reaction was rather suspicious, as you pointed out) and; 2) McKay is just so darned cute when he's smitten.

And I don't like Daniel 80% of the time, mostly when he opens his mouth. I think he's darned fine eye candy, though. But RDA is so much sexier.

The few things I liked were Rodney moments. Even as I cringed a bit, the thought of him having been an Eager Beaver scout is also funny. I also appreciated the episode showing him defending himself effectively more than once, one time while hopping on one foot.

Ronon and Rodney have an interesting partnership at times, and I would hate to see that destroyed over a trumped up mutual romantic interest in Keller.

Actually, there was one more thing I appreciated, the declaration at the end that instead of fighting each other over her with her as a prize, it should be up to her. Hopefully it means they'll be showing the best of themselves instead of sabotaging one another.

Damn, but I hate Keller.
