Aww, you're welcome. Good luck with all those Spanish exams!

Thanks, I'm going to need it. The last two chapters have been heavy on the complicated grammar. I should do okay on the reading proficiency exam on Wednesday (that was my highest score on the proficiency exams last semester), but the writing exams are going to suck.

I did make my instructor laugh in class tonight, though. We had to write out 5 sentences each for the definite and indefinite subjunctive tense, then she called on random people to read a sentence out loud. My sentence for the indefinite subjunctive was, "Deseo una clase que sea más fácil" (literally = "I desire a class that is easier"). She threw a pen cap at me. 8-)

That sounds fun, a little humor to offset all the hard work. You can do it, even the writing, I know you can. And after this class will you be taking another in the fall? Either way nice summer break, you're not taking one in the summer are you?

[identity profile] the-other-sandy.livejournal.com 2008-04-22 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Ye Olde Community College doesn't offer intermediate Spanish classes in the summer (or at least not this summer), so I'm free until the fall.

My boss would like me to keep going until I run out of classes to take. I'm not sure how I feel about it. I'm kind of burned out after 8 months of classes. I'll have to see how I feel after some time off when I'm a little more objective.

I like knowing things, but learning them is just so darn much work. ;-)

I like to journal so today I did what I've thought of doing for awhile, which is basically to go through by semester and classes, my entire 4 1/2 years of college and write about them, so I wrote 38 pages, in cursive. My hand aches by the way, but I realize again, that someday I really do want to go and get my Masters. I miss college already.

Ouch. That's a lot of writing.

I went back and got my Masters five years after I graduated from college. Since my degree was in a "soft science" (library science), I had to write a lot of theory-laden papers for my classes, sometimes five or six ten-page papers per class. When graduation neared, my mentor tried to get me to go on for my Ph.D, but at that point, I was so burned out on writing papers that I never wanted to set foot in school ever again, much less write a dissertation. I'm just starting to get back into writing again now by blithering away on my LJ.

How's the job hunt going? Find anything yet?

[identity profile] libra-traveller.livejournal.com 2008-04-23 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
That's quite the burnout.

Er, I haven't even set in any applications yet, it's hard enough trying to find a place that I would want to apply to because I've limited myself so much about what I want. I did find a few places I'm hoping to contact this week.

If I do go for my masters it'll probably be for fiction writing.

That's quite the burnout.

It was, but cranking out a 10 page paper every other week (sometimes 2 in one week) for a year and a half will do that to you. My poor BF got to listen to me melt down daily via email for my entire grad school career.

I haven't even set in any applications yet, it's hard enough trying to find a place that I would want to apply to because I've limited myself so much about what I want.

WARNING: Crotchety old person doling out unwanted advice.

Sometimes you have to take a less-than-ideal job right out of school to get the right experience that will lead to an ideal job later on. I started out temping for a library specific temp agency out of grad school to get experience to put on a resumé, which got me the job I've had for the last 11 1/2 years. I'm just sayin'.

[identity profile] libra-traveller.livejournal.com 2008-04-23 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah yeah, I know. Still it's hard even finding the unwanted job, because even those what you to already have experience.

I may not get time...

before I leave next week, but I'll repost it NLT next Friday. Since I'm going to be traveling until ugly hours Thursday night, I'm taking next Friday off. Our new bed and mattress are showing up that day as well. Woohoo!!!
