SGA Ep: Trio

This episode badly needed a B plot.

The problem with ensemble shows is that each individual character usually doesn't get sufficient screen time to develop. I like the idea of showcase episodes that allow us to get to know the individual characters better, but I think it's a mistake to run them all together like this. I really think they should break up the showcase episodes with ensemble episodes. It seems like forever since we've seen everybody interact. The show is starting to feel very small to me.

And whatever happened to the B plots? Each episode used to have an A plot and a B plot and switch back and forth between them. Watching three characters I'm not much interested in try to climb out of a hole for an hour was utterly, utterly excruciating.

Help!! My characters are out of character!!

I think that this was the first episode of the season that we'd had the opportunity to watch live, and it was like watching a train wreck. We spent most of the hour looking at each other and saying, "I can't believe that she (or he) just said that!!"

And what the heck is up with Jennifer working her way through Sheppard's team? First Ronon. Then McKay. Is Tayla next?

A train wreck would've been more interesting. It was more like watching cement harden.

I definitely have found the top three people on my list of People With Whom Not To Be Trapped In A Cave. I'd be perfectly happy to be trapped somewhere with Shep and/or Ronan, but not these three. Hello! Who was it that said, "We could just wait 5 hours until we're overdue, and someone will be sent to find us"? I am unconvinced that all that effort took less than 5 hours.

Apparently, no one was available on Atlantis to rescue them because they were shooting another episode concurrently.

Between Keller wanting to break out the cards and starting up all those question games, I was starting to wonder if she had ADD. She couldn't seem to go more than about 10 seconds without needing to be entertained.

That would definitely explain the problem. Either that, or this was supposed to double as a "team-building exercise."

Does it tell you something when, even though I was sitting on the couch watching the whole time, I had to ask Brian, "Hey, how'd they get Sam out, anyway?" My brain mercifully shut down. I think I'm going to go watch some better-quality TV. Like maybe "Spock's Brain."

You can make it a double feature with "Hathor."
