Torchwood Ep: Small Worlds

Gwen pegged the theme of this ep when she said, "One person's good could be someone else's evil."

Estelle's good fairies were Jack's evil fairies. Estelle only saw them when they were in their cute, playful glowy form, while Jack had experienced firsthand the evil they could do. Poor Estelle. All she wanted to do was see her magical little friends, but taking flash photos in the dark is no way to be stealthy. I guess they didn't like having their pictures taken, because Estelle meant no harm to either the fairies or their chosen one, but they still killed her.

Joining the fairies was probably what was best for Jasmine, but her mother wouldn't think so, of course. It's always painful to lose a child. Yet, Jasmine had no human friends, was bullied at school (she seemed to be a lot smaller than her classmates), and never laughed or seemed happy unless she was with the fairies. I think she was probably meant to be with them from the time she was born.

Letting Jasmine choose to go with the fairies was no contest for Jack, even though he was clearly unhappy about it, while his team was so disgusted with his decision that they wouldn't even look at him afterward. Jasmine was right, the fairies were going to keep killing anyone who bothered her, even for something as non-life-threatening as schoolyard bullying, until she joined them. And it's not like Jack was sending Jasmine off to her death. She's going to outlive all of them, but she's lost to her mother. Once again, the team did not support Jack in the terrible decision he had to make, yet when he asked them what else he could've done, they didn't have any answers. There seem to be a lot of Monday morning quarterbacks over at Torchwood.
