It's -17°F right now with a wind chill of -39°F. Fortunately for me, admin decided last Monday that the library would be closed today. In fact, we won't open until 1:00 p.m. tomorrow, although we were also given the option of taking personal time and just not going in. I chose not to go in. I'm just as happy to stay inside and read through the whole event. I'm just bummed that I'm out of hot chocolate.

We closed yesterday and open at 1pm today, too. The personal time option wasn't official, but I told people in my department that they could do it, especially if their normal schedule meant that they would only be at work for a few hours. My cat L was quite happy that I spent a large chunk of yesterday afternoon curled up reading with him.

I got two texts and a phone call this morning that we're going to be closed all day today, too, due to "mechanical difficulties." I hope that doesn't mean the heat is out. My desk is both next to a large bank of windows and under a vent, so I'm freezing on a normal winter day, even with a fleece jacket on. It's usually about 66°F in my department when I arrive in the morning. I can't imagine how cold it would be if the heat went out with the weather like it is now.

Yikes! I hope the mechanical difficulties aren't too severe. As cold as it is, I'd worry about the pipes if the heat went out.

True, as well as more work cataloging replacements for the books that got damaged!

Eh, they'd just be added copies. And anything out of print that we couldn't replace would be withdrawn by the processors, not me. Avoiding mold come summer would be the real issue.

The heat did indeed go out. I spent Friday wearing my favorite hoodie under my fleece jacket, and fingerless gloves. It was...nippy.
