No, Seriously, WTF?!

I just got a look at the newly revamped Delicious. I'm stunned. The site went from the most useful tool for managing fic ever to a useless waste of bandwidth overnight. I can't tell you how many times I've used tag combinations to dig up fics for storyfinder comms. Now my tag bundles are gone, only about 1/5 of my tags are usable, and my Firefox add-on no longer works.

I'm thanking my lucky stars that I had the foresight to import all my Delicious bookmarks into Firefox when I first heard Delicious was going to be sold. I even have them tagged, and I can use either my bookmarks menu or the awesome bar to search for them. It's not the same though.

I've looked at some other social bookmarking sites, but until somebody gives me my tag bundles back, I think I'll stick with Firefox. I'm not deleting my Delicious account yet in case the new owners see the error of their ways, but I don't think I'll be adding to it anymore. Why would anyone take a uniquely useful site like that and shoot it in the foot?

This is a question being asked all over my f'list. It's inexplicable to everyone.

No one on my flist said anything, in spite of the majority of them being fic readers/writers. I even added a bookmark what must have been the night before the change and everything was fine. I was totally blindsided this morning. At least I still have all my fics tagged in my browser. I wish one of the other bookmarking sites managed tags as usefully.

My flist was up in arms, there was even a post in the Kirk/Spock comm specifically about it. I just moved to Pinboard and managed to preserve all my tags and organization, but what really annoys me is that the Delicious archives for all the kink memes I was following have been rendered impossible to read, search or navigate.

There wasn't a peep on my flist. This caught me completely by surprise.

I looked at Pinboard. It looked pretty good, but not good enough to pay money for. And it didn't have tag bundles either.

Unfortunately no matter where I go, I don't think my tags will transfer correctly since they are currently broken in Delicious. I'm not sure how much work I want to put into fixing them at this point.

I suppose it's time to cut the cord. It's so easy to make e-books out of fic on the Internet these days that I've just been downloading 'read later' fic to my Sony Reader instead of bookmarking it anyway, and Calibre has a good tag searching system for e-books (or e-fics). But I really miss how useful Delicious was.

I'm not sure what you mean by "broken", but all my tags with slashes that did not work in Delicious are now working fine in Pinboard, the only thing I did lose was the tag bundles, and I had to delete three mystery tags that showed up out of nowhere.

I used to save fic on my hard drive, and then completely forget about it. (Also, the files used up a ton of space. That new save to PDF option on AO3 is heaven) The archiving sites make it so much easier to search by subject or author. But then again, there's the risk someday a specific page will be deleted. I guess there are no perfect solutions.

I have several tags (out of the ones I can see anyway) that are just gibberish. I don't even know what they used to be.

I save fic to my hard drive as .epubs. They take up a lot less space than .pdfs. And yeah, I've been burned enough by disappearing fic that if I really love a fic, I save it immediately just in case.

Anyway all my old Delicious bookmarks are saved in Firefox, so I can do title and author searches in the awesome bar, or search by tags in the bookmark menu or the awesome bar. I can't combine tags, dang it, but that's probably going to be as good as it gets now.
